Tuning after piston problem

A remap installed, again (where it was done at the first time) for free. Three files / programs were installed and tested. Reached 150 hp for (95Octanes). However with two of the three programs it was shaking, again, at 1700-2200 rpm. The remap that was tested and did not make a problem / tremor was the lowest with which it reached 138 hp. (around). It is more powerful than facroty, but not so much as 150hp. The tuner's work was very careful.

what engine....     sounds like a bad idea if its running badly, either issue with the car before the work, so tuning a silly idea or the map is junk and highly likely will cause damage

with the title inferring that you already blew a piston this doesn't sound like a sensible approach

That is what happened.(First time) ECU remap installed in ford focus 2017 1.0 125ps. 25hp increased, reached 152. When driving at low rpm, especially between 1700-2200 at 5th and 6th gear (sometimes even at 4th), the car trembled. I went to the engineer who installed the remap, he checked it and then he said that it is fine. After one and a half month two pistons blew. It was a big damage, almost three weeks the car was at the engineer shop and paid a lot to fix it. Then I went to the engineer and he unistalled the remap. After that the car was fine. This time a different remap was installed.

the word remap in today's world is a NASTY term....

it tends to mean a bunch of computer geeks sitting at a desktop with NO idea how an engine even functions using bodge algorithms to create some cheap noughts and ones that should make it a bit quicker..

its really doesn't matter who you use, its ALL the same base bodge sold to multiple businesses...

as the car has gone BANG once, it suggests the base bodge is NASTY and not a good idea.... and a second very important point, the age of the 3 pot 1 ltr engine matters.... early ones went BANG when driven slowly when dead stock... the whole engine, cyl head and cooling systems have been redesigned 3 times I believe

get it stock, if it runs right sell it and buy a car with a bigger engine

Agree. But this remap shows to be just fine. Three program remaps were tested. Only one was alright (the car did not tremble). Testing the other two, it increased to 150 hp, but it trembled at at rpm (1700-2200). With the current one increased to 138-140 hp., and is fine. There is a difference than stock, but it not much, as it was at 150hp. All programs that have been tested are for 95 Octanes benzina. Furthermore the tuner said that he will try (in coopertaion with others, -another tuner and tuners from Germany) to make a safe remap to increase it to 150hp (but without any problems).

Very interesting. the car's new remap has been tested several times and everything seems fine. It is not much different that the factory's, but the difference is noticeable/ can be sensed. Thank you again. Your english is hard to translate, so it is a good oportunity to learn the language better/more.

the point you make about bad running at low revs and that map then having good top end vs good bottom end and no top end on the replacement...  translates as NASTY maps by bodging animals with no idea what they are doing,

the last one offering to go back and build a combo seems the least dim, obviously its possible.... (what's extraordinary is how the purveyors of this trash got away with releasing the faulty one)... what are they doing to pay the repair bill?

There could be many opinios about that. The first time it was not good remap, the second time (until now) it seems that it is rather good.

  • 5 months later...

Upgraded power from 138 hp to 144 hp. The difference is very nice, but not very big.
Turbo changed from 1:25 to 1:45.
