Garry002 Posted March 25, 2021 Share Posted March 25, 2021 Hi ive managed to pick myself up a newer steering wheel for my mk3 2012 Focus hoping to add cruise control at the same time but reading threw some of the how to's there seems to be a lot of missing pics. I'm wondering if anyone has successfully went from a 2012 steering wheel to a 2017 and got everything working? I have the second steering wheel with no cruise control hoping to upgrade then activate with the steering wheel in the first pic... any help would be really appreciated before I start taking things apart only to find out it can't be done thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JPW Posted March 25, 2021 Share Posted March 25, 2021 You need the steering wheel, airbag and the newer MK3.5 clockspring as the MK3 one from 2012 is not compatible. Possibly also a new harness which includes the connector for the cruise control buttons. It all works fine, you'll just have to amend some settings to enable the buttons to work and also the cruise control. @kevgals has just done this, maybe he can provide some more details. Guest Posted March 25, 2021 Share Posted March 25, 2021 Hi Garry, you will also need the clockspring assembly. I will be fitting my clockspring tomorrow. I'll post tomorrow evening and confirm that all is okay and give you the correct part number for the clockspring. I already had cruise but I understand that when you have fitted your new steering wheel and clockspring it should just be a case of activating cruise as per the guides in this forum. Guest Posted March 25, 2021 Share Posted March 25, 2021 Steering wheel removal is easy, airbag removal is a bit of a pain, there are some guides on YouTube. JPW Posted March 25, 2021 Share Posted March 25, 2021 The left hand controls will control the trip computer, but you will lose the ability to control the original BVC/SYNC1 radio as these steering wheels are designed to work with SYNC 2/3 which is touchscreen. Disconnect the battery then leave it for at least 10 minutes. You should then be fine ti disconnect the airbag. Guest Posted March 29, 2021 Share Posted March 29, 2021 Success I changed the clockspring but still had no cruise control, fortunately I purchased the clockspring complete with the indicator/wiper stalks etc. Everything now working as expected. Worth bearing in mind that my car is 2012 C Max and I think that they lag behind (parts wise) the Focus. I don't know wether the full assembly would be needed with all Focus'sThe only difference I can see on the indicator/wiper stalk PCB is a small capacitor on the left hand side behind the clockspring. Before changing this I had a DTC- B112B, Steering wheel module, mechanical errors, which couldn't be cleared. After replacement DTC cleared and all good. Both D-pads work as expected, cruise control fully operational. Was a bit worried when cruise didn't work after changing the clockspring.
