Oh I’ve not noticed re the music art, but I’ve noticed that I’ve lost a few radio logos since 20351,

Some logos are there, but lots are missing, the ones that used to be there, like the BBC are no longer.

very strange indeed

Thanks for your help , finally got logos back, downloaded files in windows 10 running in bootcamp them put them onto a usb. Went back into apple formatted a usb and transferred the files over, worked like a charm. Now I've got to figure out the problem trying to install the 8 gb supplementary map update.

No problem, glad you got the logos back. Hope you get the map update installed too.

Apparently the 8gb download is a Sat Nav voice update. MEM_ERR error seems to be common. Another Ford coding error !!!!

Interesting bit of info. Sync version numbers include build dates in yyddd format.

So 3.4.20351 was built on day 351 of 2020, 16th December.

The latest version on Cyanlabs is 3.4.21020, January 20 2021.

F9 (1st release) Maps are version number 3.2.19324, built November 20, 2019.

F9 (2nd release) Maps are version number 3.2.20071, built March 11, 2020.

F10 Maps are version number 3.2.20339, built December 4, 2020.

Thanks for this.  Really interesting to know.

always did wonder how the numbering worked.

Hi Colin

just want to thank you so much.

got most of the logos back, well the ones I used to have and a couple new ones.

I really don’t get how Ford are so bad with their Sync updates.  You download a new piece of software and it breaks dab logos.

it’s just really scary as there seems to be no quality control over Sync, or is it just me?

but thanks again👍

No problem Daz, glad you got the logos mostly sorted.

I agree, poor show from Ford. All they had to do was include the logo file and two extra lines in the autoinstall file in the update and all this hassle would have been avoided.

Dealer just updated Sync 3 to 3.4.20351 as WiFi auto update said I was up to date.  When I got home Ford site says there is now the 8gb Map update.  WiFi auto update says it's up to date.  Tried USB update but car throws MEM_err001. Going back to Dealer next week.  I'm not impressed with the new Ford.

Does anyone know if WiFi updates (OTA) actually work?  And if so should it update Sync Software and Maps?  Does it connect to WiFi and stay connected when car is parked?  Hard to get this info

Has anybody had success in installing this 8gb map update yet ?, when I try it just goes round in a loop loading the first part only. Is there a need for it ?, the only thing is that you need the file that you send back to ford on completion. As John above, the OTA search tells me I am upto date.

Don't be too quick to blame Ford. It's highly unlikely that problems with updating will be their fault when it works perfectly well for most people. More likely to be the way you format the usb stick and unzip the files. And the reason the info on updating is hard to get is because it has been posted hundreds of times already. There are 3 parts to the latest updates - Sync 3.4 to version 20351, approx. 1Gb, navigation voice files (4), approx 8Gb, and map updates F9 to F10 ( not currently being offered to me), F9 update approx 22Gb. You don't need the voice updates, exactly same as before, but OTA updates (yes, it works perfectly well sat on your drive connected to home wifi, and will start from where it left off if interrupted) only offers you one file containing English. Change your car's language to Spanish and the 2nd file is immediately offered. Install all 4 files from the Ford website, send back the xml file ( I had to do this after using the troubleshooting file, but worked perfectly well) and I'm no longer being offered the 8Gb voice files update. I'm now up to date both website and OTA waiting for F10 maps if they ever get released. Hope this helps, but how long before someone asks exactly the same questions?

Thanks Waggy,

Maybe so.  But nothing wrong with the USB stick or the unzip.  The mem_err001 apparently relates to the headset lack of memory or the update has already been done according to Ford Customer services.  Regardless it refused to recognise there was 20351 Sync update OTA which is why it went back to the dealer where it was updated successfully.

So it should take all the Sync updates and Map updates automatically OTA, never a need to use the USB? My dealer said it didn't take map updates OTA, hence my utter confusion.  I'll be very pleased when the OTA updates work seamlessly for me. Where it's parked it gets my home WiFi with a download speed in excess of 20mbps so that shouldn't be a problem.

Having retired after 38 years developing and implementing serious IT systems I really can't be asked to devote this amount of time to get a current map on my Sat Nav without getting paid.  I mean, really, free android apps update in minutes and are current.

I’m pretty sure I posted a copy and paste from another Ford forum a few months ago with people saying the 8gb maps update thats on the ford website is an error by ford.
As for OTA , I got F9 on it, as I wasn’t offered it on the website tho some did.  connected for a few minutes every time I parked at home, and resumed from wherever it’d disconnected every time. Took about a week . 22GB I think.
I just got the sync update from the ford website, even tho my auto updates in the car were saying all up to date.

Thanks Alex.S, that's very useful to know. Clearly Ford have a fundamentally flawed software distribution system.  As well as out of date maps!  Probably good job they are ditching their Sync system for a Google Collaboration.

  • 2 months later...

I have recently bought my Focus Vignale, and I checked the Ford website for updates, and it said that I needed one before I could update the maps, so I downloaded 5U5T-14G381-ER zip file and followed all of the instructions for install.  The message I got onscreen was that the software was up to date.

This is fine, except I am on F7 maps. The attempted update didn't produce a log file, so I am unable to send anything to Ford so that I can download the latest maps file.

Can anyone advise or help please?

Thanks

*Edit, I just did a latest software search in the car, and is now downloading

5U5T-14G391-AN_1615393794000.TAR.GZ

But that is going to take forever as I have just been sat with it for the last 10/15 mins and it is not showing any progress.

I think it won’t produce a log file until it’s been successfully updated. The file should be on the usb stick. XML File iirc

personally I managed to delete my log file before putting it in the website! It’s not a problem , after successfully downloading the website will guide you through the step or two. There’s live chat too, if u need help.

The update before maps will be a sync update. Shouldn’t take long.

If your getting the update over the air speed will depend on your wifi strength/connection.

Well, I managed to get the update done using the USB method. All good, except that it didnt create an xml log file for me to upload to the Ford website.

I noticed also that I don't have the radio station logo's, so I used the links posted earlier. Only difference being the second download file name was different from the install file pathname. I made the changes and everything appeared to upload OK. After restarting the car, I still don't have the station logo's displaying though!

Having said that about the xml file not being generated, I just went on the Ford website, and it now tells me my software is up to date, and is offering me a 23gb maps update.

This must be because the car was connected to the Ford Pass app on my phone when I did the update.

Is there not a ‘browse files’ option on the website? To find the log file?
iirc

Yes there is, but the file wasn't created. It is not on the USB stick. Not that it matters anyway as the Ford website updated to say I was up to date with the software and allowed me to download the maps update file.

The website can create a log file for you. There’s instructions on there. I know cause I formatted my usb stick after the update but before putting the log file in. I’m not sure how important that file is? It’s telling Ford what software each car has I guess.

The website doesn't create a log file for you.

It provides a tool and instructions to use a USB stick in the car to produce a log file, which still needs uploading to the website.

Just clarifying what happens.
