Clutch pedal loud click when pressed, clunk on return

Recently bought a 2014 ford focus and having this intermittent issue.

Garage replaced spring assembly and master cylinder but this is still happening, even louder now it's got a fresh spring in it!

I'm mostly concerned about the loud clunk where the pedal returns to normal then snaps up another inch when I lift my foot away. Garage said the master cylinder was ripped out when this has been happening over a long period of time. Anyone else had this issue and know a fix?
