2014 SE hatchback 2.0 w/5speed; Any aftermarket exhaust ideas?

Featured Replies

I stay away from any radical tuning, but like to add a rear exhaust section on my cars that just adds a little bark to the exhaust and looks good, too. I realize any actual horsepower gains are insignificant, if at all.   Any suggestions for a unit to replace the transverse rear silencer that group members have been happy with?   Your experiences are appreciated!

I wound up buying the Ford Performance rear silencer made by Borla.  This only replaces the rear muffler--not the stock center one.  You have to cut the stock pipe where it passes over the left rear suspension to fit it. (the instructions tell you to unbolt the entire pipe where the cat attaches to the manifold to gain access to cut, but I was worried about breaking off the rusted bolts and not having a leak-free joint after--it IS possible to make the cut with the pipe attached anyway!)

The unit is very well made and fit perfectly. They provide an excellent clamp to fit the silencer to the pipe.  I never expected any noticeable performance improvement and found that claims by others of better fuel mileage are very small.  My only slight disappointment is that there was virtually no change in the exhaust sound. I didn't want very much, but had hoped for a little 'roar' under heavy throttle, but if there is any change, it's unnoticeable.  But, overall, I'm pleased and really like the polished twin outlets!

If you want more sound a center silencer delete pipe would do it but would drone or the next part up of the Borla to the cat would sort it out.
