Mk 8 facelift 2021

Looking through the blurb/pictures that've already appeared online a few things struck me about the ST.

It gets a 22lb/ft torque boost, which pushes it even further ahead on torque than the new Hyundai i20N (which I'm still waiting to test drive).

The new digital instruments appear to feature a "flame" effect when it goes into (presumably) the sportiest mode, just like the Hyundai does.

The new (in house rather than Recaro) seats seem to be a little more accommodating for those of us without the hips of a snake,  again like the Hyundai.

Now, if the ST has also gained a tad more compliance suspension-wise, that would be very interesting to me.

It's about time the Fiesta was killed off MK8.499999999.........

Ford killed the Anglia Cortina, Clasic, Corsair, Capri, Consul, Sierra, Escort, Orion, Granada,  to name just a few.  Surely they don't intend to keep it going any longer, more than half the people driving them have no idea what MK they have. Bring back the Model T, but as an EV of course !!  🤣

Oh, I don't know. The VW Polo and Golf predate the Fiesta by one and two years respectively. I see Renault are even bringing back the 5, but in electric form of course. Why kill off a name that a lot of people relate to.

If they really want to get the general public to embrace EVs as everyday vehicles I do think we need an electric "Fiesta" rather than yet another 2.5 tonne + SUV.

Mk 9 anyone?😀

Looks like useful tweaks for the ST but a light face-lift generally. May be unfair to judge from a few pics, and those on Top Gear and Autocar only show the ST, ST Line and Active, but new front doesn't look great to me.

Hoping they might have done some quiet under skin fettling to reduce the road noise a bit more too, and cut the dashboard creaks but maybe that's just mine...

Re electric  - thought I'd read that plan is for Ford to use the VW MEB platform for their battery EVs. Think there's a smaller version of it which could make a Fiesta size car (like the VW concept at the Munich motor show)...but whether they'd call it that...

Yes, that's right. There have been a few "impression" pics in various parts of the press which show something Puma-like (which seems to be the new Ford look) but all speculation so far of course. The MEB one will probably replace the ICE Focus and coincidentally this week Autocar have an "impression" of what VW are calling the ID Life which just happened to be 4091 mm long or Polo/Fiesta size, so if the Ford/VW deal includes that, it could well be the basis of an "e-Fiesta".

Apparently VW are claiming 0-62 in under 7 secs and a 248 mile range, with the ability to get 100 miles of charge in 10 minutes on a rapid charger. Due in 2025 with projected starting price around £17k.

The Fiesta name is just there for marketing...it's nothing like the original lol.  I'm trying to think if any models have reached Mk10?  Mk8 seems to be about the limit... 🤔

Well, on the face of it no but having had a Mk 1 and now a Mk 8 one thing they did have in common was being fun to drive.

Mk 10? Hmmm........how about the Mk 10 Jag?😀

Hi Tom, isn't the current Honda Civic the mk10?

The good old Honda Civic, somethings never change.

Got to say that latest Type R does look mean - but it's just too darn big these days!

Well of course it is, the car needs to be known by something, there’s loads of cars that have evolved over the years that still have the same name as decades ago, civic, Corolla, 3 series, 911 etc.

Does it matter if its the Mk8 or Mk15? The only people that actually care are enthusiasts and we'll all know.

The MK9 will offer a full EV and it'll be called the Fi-EVsta. 👀

The 911 hasn't evolved!!  It still looks exactly the same.  Nor has the 3 Series either tbh.  I'll give you Civic & Corolla though.

Apparently so!  I can only remember about 5 of them.  From a quick Google it looks like the Civic pre-dates the Fiesta.

Depending on which EVM they use, Siesta might be a better choice. :whistling:

Lol. Depends what you mean by evolved - they've certainly grown. Compare the original 911 with the current (8th gen, I think) 992 series and the latter is a real bloater with the odd nod to the past in the window shape and engine position. The 3-series was a compact sports saloon, now it's probably bigger than the 5 series used to be.😀

True, but if you put the two side by side they still look pretty much the same, just gained a bit of weight in middle age!

Even to a 'car person' that wasn't around for the early ones it's hard to tell an old Civic or Corolla without the badge though...  Whereas the 911 and 3 series can still easily be guessed.

If I can't work out what a brand new car is called from it's basic shape alone (such as the Civic), I don't see the reason for keeping the name personally.

If I wear a pair of specs, I'll still look like myself (sadly! )...  Even if I put on a bit of weight.  But If I suddenly grow 2 extra legs and a tail, along with facial features generally associated with a different species, I'd probably have to change my name.

New Tesla Q.

Looks remarkably similar to a MK8 with no grilles.

If someone said it was a MK9 EV I would believe them.

No, you wouldn’t.

what your saying is the current fiesta should be called something else as it doesn’t look the same as the mk1, yet the 911 and 3 series look the same (even though they’ve changed in the same way and for the same reasons as the fiesta), so it’s ok they have the same name.

The Mk7 Fiesta should have been called something else imo...it's a completely different shape to the Mk6.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Why, because I don’t agree with other peoples opinions? Grow up Bob, now they’ve revealed the car are you still unimpressed?

but the 6 should have been called something else as it didn’t look like the 5 which shouldn’t have been called a fiesta as it didn’t look like the 2. Good job you don’t work for Ford’s naming department they’d be hundreds of different models,

No you're entitled to disagree with anyone.   That's your right.   However you're just plain rude.

Could you point out on this thread where I’ve been “just plain rude”
