What is the max power output for my engine?

Recommended Posts

I have just bought a Focus ST-line and I want to make sure that the advertised engine power (140 PS) is correct for my car. Using my VIN I have tried everywhere (Ford website, telephone, live chat, emails, Ford dealer) but nobody can help me. The dealer did suggest putting it on a dyno and charging me £120!?

How do I check my car's engine power as specified from the factory?

What makes you think it isnt and perhaps you should of made certain it's the right one before purchasing 🙂

Presumably this is a late Mk 3.5 ST-Line with the 140ps 1.0 ecoboost?.

PS would normally be shown on the plate on the drivers or front passenger door pillar.

Another way to check is the V5C. Power outputs are shown on there in kW, so you are looking for 103kW or so which is equivalent to 140PS.

A further thought - do an online insurance quote - when you input your reg it normally fully identifies your vehicle if there are different power outputs for the same model.

Etis does not show the exact power output of the 125 HP and 140 HP versions of the 1.0 ECOboost. Both are listed in Etis as "1.0L EcoBoost 120PS/125PS/140PS".

The Central Car Configuration (CCC) does also not show the exact power output of the 125 HP and 140 HP versions of the 1.0 ECOboost. Both are configured as 3A ("1.0 GTDI FOX 120 PS").

Apart from the vehicle documents the only other way to determine whether the car is a 125 HP or 140 HP version is by the PCM software version.

Just discovered that my LX has 17 more horsepower than my 1982 XR2 (82BHP), but not quite as much as my previous Celica GT4 (286BHP) LOL Handy web site...

EDIT - forgot to mention that I inputted the XR2 original number plate (now 39 years old) and it came up with the correct answer! That's quite a database as some 'car parts' ones don't even recognise my current Focus number LOL

It seems to on the Mk 8 Fiesta at least. Mine comes up as "1.0L GTDi Ecoboost 140PS"

Lol, I was embarrassed when I found the Mrs's SEAT Mii was only 4hp down on my 1971 MG Midget (and has a slightly quicker 0-60 time)!😀

Useful site that Tom, both our cars checked out correctly on there.😀

Slightly embarrassingly it doesn't show full details for my new Focus! (Missing bhp, transmission and gear count)

I've been using it for years on other cars though. The MOT section updates quickly enough for me to know when the car is ready to collect!

Tom, you may have missed my 'EDIT' to my above post, interesting to see the database is 'instant', and also, 'vintage' LOL

Haha, yeah it goes way back, I have been known to search cars on there from old TV programmes to see if they're still on the road!
