2012 Focus Titanium - Powerfold Mirror Issue

Easy 😎

The driver's side (Offside) motorised mirror is a second or so delayed when pressing the fob to unlock the vehicle - in comparison with the passenger side which unfolds no problem.

Upon locking the vehicle - it also overplays eg. carries on twitching for a few moments when it reaches it's stop. Appears as if it's still attempting to fold inwards when it should be a completed process and should be at a standstill Again the passenger (Nearside) mirror folds inwards without issues.

Slightly concerned on whether it's a fault anywhere along the electrics.

Maybe the motor or the housing / wiring looms with the mirror in question.

Has anybody got any insight to this particular problem and could offer advice?

Is it something I should not worry too much about?

Appreciate any help and all information.

Thankou for your time.

The first thing I would do would be to give a good spray of WD40 into the mechanism. Then fold/unfold a few times. When my powerfold mirrors (on a different car) demonstrated similar symptoms, the cured it, and I also then sprayed PTFE mulit lube spray to maintain it (had a can of it in the garage!)

The problem is normally caused by the mirror being 'bumped' when in the unfolded position and the little plastic gearing system inside the mirror jumps a tooth. Sometimes you can get the mirror to put itself right by holding down the unfold button in the car for 20-30 seconds after the mirror has unfolded.

The other way is to gently give the mirror a slight pull out when it is folded in, not much force reqired just a short sharp tug.

Hi Stephen.

Thanks for your input. Appreciate the advice on this. I didn't want to think it was a major, major issue but I knew I couldn't just leave it and needed to enquire just in case.

Going to try this method out. More than likely tomorrow so will update on here after I've tried it out.

If all goes accordingly I'll be getting the PTFE also to keep up maintenance on the mirror.

Cheers StephenFord 🤝

Hi Unofix.

Cheers for the info - that's handy to know in case the WD40 method that StephenFord above mentioned doesn't work in my particular case.

Will try the WD40 initially and if I see no change I'll go with holding the interior's mirror fold button for the 20 to 30 seconds you mention.

Hopefully one of these will straighten it out before I have to potentially snap the mirror back into position and - knowing my luck -  inevitably end up having to purchase a new mirror unit 😆

Thanks for the help Unofix.

Will be trying out tomorrow so will post my progress and updates.

Thanks again 🤝
