Not mine, but on a car for sale - if the belt snaps can/does it damage the engine?

2012 1.2 Zetec

Thanks!

Yep, cost in an engine replacement if you're considering it as a project.

Catastrophic engine failure in most cases - bent valves - top of the pistons damaged, a friends engine suffered belt failure, engine repair quote was well over a grand, he got a complete low mileage engine for £200, even renewed the cam belt on that engine to be sure, his original engine was a right mess 🥵

Sounds very cheap?  Or is that the going rate?

Thanks!

Depends on the sort of scrap yard, some will milk customers for all their cash, some will see them right, always shop around for the best bargin, best bargins are the engines which are still in the car and the mileage is pretty low and the engine number tallies with the car, engines already taken out and left on the ground, then anyone can say they are low mileage.
