Thinking of changing MK2.5 to MK3, advice/opinions welcome

Featured Replies

Hi all

Now the MK 3 is sort of in my budget now for a titanium x, I've been looking at getting one

currently drive a 1.8 MK 2.5 which I have done for 7 years

I drive short distances to work and back daily, and no where to charge an EV and I wouldn't get a hybrid , sticking to petrol (then maybe EV after that who knows)

So then,  I'm looking at a 2011 / 2013 titanium x, most likely 1.6 ecoboost form

I would like some advice regarding this change

As i do short distances the engine shouldn't make a lot of difference in fuel consumption , is the 1L adequate enough ? or should i just go for the 1.6 ?

to be honest, id prefer more power again (had a clio sport before)

I know the infotainment system is not sync on the early ones, so i would try to get a 2013 at least but the pre facelift to facelift conversion to 8" sync 3 looks like a worth while upgrade as the 4.5" screen is rather small ?

but then I look at a facelift titanium x, and i prefer the kit of these if I'm honest, I think the standard automatic emergency braking is useful  etc etc, but out of my budget, but if I did get one what do you think prices would be like in 5 years compared to a pre facelift ?

I'm assuming  the MK 3 is an all-round better car than the old ones ?

prefer auto, if im honest, but well out of my price range..

EDIT//

Any useful changes you can do to these at the ECU level ? like home light delay changes, disable keyless entry etc etc ?

A lot of problems have been reported here with the ecoboost engine. Especially the coolant hose failing, and turbo coolant pipes rusting prematurely and in some instances needing a new turbo. You might want to consider the issues before purchasing.

That said, I'm loving the 62plate 1.0l ecoboost I bought last week.

I drive a 2016 Focus Ecoboost and the Mrs drives a 2014 Fiesta ecoboost, both 1.0L and running fine with no problems on the engines at all.

I do find my 125HP Focus a bit gutless though, but the Fiesta is like a Go Kart!

incidentally, my sister has a 1L ecoboost Fiesta (7  years now from new)

my brothers wife has a Focus Zetec S (not sure on engine) she's had that about the same

no problems with either

The 1.6 ecoboost would be the best as the 1.0 125 is gutless in the focus but fun in a fiesta. If you want to match 125 the MK3 1.6 non turbo is 125. I would avoid auto in that year range as it uses power shift with a dual clutch and runs into problems. The MK3 suffers from engine mounts wearing out fast, the famous boot leak (pinned post) and washer pump can leak and track down the wires into the bcm.

And bear in mind that early 1.0 Ecoboost's will be coming up for timing belt replacement at either 10 years or 125k miles which is a major job, I believe ??

does 1.6 not have one as well then ?
