Engine light and battery problems

Featured Replies

Hi

I have been having engine management problems with my 09 focus 1.6D. When my speed gets to around 60mph the engine light comes on. I take it to the garage, they 'fix it' then it happens again. I also had battery/alternator issues last year which saw them both replaced but this year the battery is again not holding any charge and I need to keep jump starting. Is there any way the two are linked? Due to costs incurred so far im close to scrapping the car so just looking for any info.

If the battery is that new, and it is not holding a charge, I would suggest you have a parasitic drain somewhere taking the charge out. If it were my car, I would head to a proper auto spark for a diagnosis. A general garage will only do the most cursory of testing, and likely not get to the cause.

Thanks for the reply. Is there the possibility the engine management light and the draining of the battery are linked or is it more likely its 2 separate issues.

The engine light is hinting at a faulty component that it doesn't like, and that component could be the cause of a battery drain. However, they could be 2 separate issues,  that's why you need a proper diagnosis rather than a continuing guessing game...

Could be a faulty BCM, check for water damaged (fusebox under glovebox)
