Bought focus thats been converted to single mass

Featured Replies

Hi. Iam really worried as we have just spent 2000 on a 58 plate 1.8 tdci focus mk2 with 83k miles. They told me its been converted to single mass. When we went to see it they were late and appeared with the car. So i didn't get to see cold start. Test drive was around Sheffield and not knowing the area we was in middle of town and couldn't find quiet place to listen to the car. But the drive seemed fine and we fell in love with the car.

I have been finding it hard to get into first gear. Really have to look for it or it will jump back out. Its as if it takes 2 pushes to get in to gear. Not only that when i take my foot off the accelerator feels similar to worn engine mount and can hear a light clunk. However the engine mounts look solid. I have done some research on the net and believe that single mass can destroy the gearbox. And i think this may be the case. We really like the car and have had it less than a week. So still got under 30 days to return.

Please can anyone give us some advice. I have asked the dealer and he said i could fetch it back. But if he refuses how long will it take small courts to get things sorted?

Give it back and look for another.

swapping from DMF to the nasty garbage idiots use is a mistake - there are multiple reasons its fitted the big three being

1) crankshaft vibration damper (literally the crank can snap in half under full power / high revs - some engine's its guaranteed, most tractors are so disgusting they cope)
2) to protect engine mounts and drivetrain (gearbox, differential and drive shafts) from excessive shock
3) to vastly reduce NVH making the vehicle much more pleasant and far easier to drive

after telling them NOT to fit the zero vibration damping single mass catastrophe, both my idiot brothers have done this on their vans - both regret it just from a driving refinement perspective ! and they both need new vans and both paid out way more on the vehicles self destructing due to their idiocy.  The Transit is now dead and the other idiots Renault traffic is shortly to follow.
