mjt
Looking at Haynes it would appear that the outer CV joint can not be separated from the driveshaft. If it is necessary to replace the gailter it must be done by removing the shaft from the inner tripod joint. In the past CV joints were usually retained with a spring ring on the end of the shaft, with the joint ball cage chamfered so that tapping with a hammer would compress the ring into the chamfer until the shaft could be withdrawn. It looks as if modern ones have the joint fixed so that it can only be renewed together with the shaft as a complete unit.
TomsFocus
I didn't know anyone still changed singular CV joints. Horrible messy job!! If you're only trying to change the gaiter, buy a stretch fit one instead.
