EnterTheEcho
My power steering fliud is leaking out right where the hose goes into the pump (a common issue from my research). My local garage want over £1000 for a new hose and pump!! The car has got over 135,000mi on it so I am thinking about either using some high temp silicone sealent and hoping for the best. Would I have any issues with that, or just letting the pump die and not having power steering?

In a previous car (not a Focus) I had a new pump supplied & fitted for £140, that does seem an awful steep price, probably similar value as the car! unofix
Power steering pump for your model is about £75.00 plus fitting at a local garage - say 2 hours. Total job should be less than £250

They really did wanna take me for a chump! Talked to a couple other garages if I cant get a decent price I will probably just part it out and use the money to get a newer focus lol
iantt
Why does the pump need changing? Normally only the hose and union required. Easy enough job. Only an hour max to do.
ScaniaPBman
When you say " the hose goes into the pump " that means to me the hose from the power steering pump reservoir down to the inlet to the pump its self. This is a low pressure item and easy to change. When it leaks the drip is from the pump body and can confuse the unwary. This twisty soft hose is about £30 and if you cannot fit it your self, will not cost much to fit at your friendly garage. Try this first before you scrap your car. ScaniaPBman.
