Nimrodmk8
Would it be a good idea to leave my car in gear, when I park, I have heard of them releasing
F0CUE
A lot of peeps do it for additional safety and tbh nowadays the clutch has to be depressed to start the cars so there is no threat of starting it in gear unsafely.

Don't you think it's a bit ironic that a fundamental safety feature installed by Ford is doubled up on just for, 'additional safety' LOL

DonnyMark
Stupid question, first car I have had with an electronic handbrake, do you have to release it before driving off ? Or does it operate the same as the auto hold and you can just drive away ?

There's really no need to be touching the handbrake at all in theory.

It will release automatically, but I always press the switch down anyway out of habit and switch it on via the switch when I'm going to be switching the engine off. It does apply itself sometimes when leaving the car if you do things in a certain order but if you read the handbook it says that it is an electronic handbrake that automatically releases, it does not say or imply that it magically knows that you want it to apply and switch it on. 1 hour ago, Nimrodmk8 said: Would it be a good idea to leave my car in gear, when I park, I have heard of them releasing Best to turn the wheels into the kerb if on a steep hill. I have heard of people saying that they did apply it and it must have released itself but to be honest I don't believe them, they are likely to be the ones who think it always applies itself and didn't pull the switch up.

And I bet that law came in long before cars had Electronic Parking Brakes.

fiestaecoboostman
Vauxhall had an issue with handbrakes not quite fully engaging and releasing when parked - on Vaffy's I think, just a wise precaution to park in gear in my opinion. I always check its in neutral before starting - just a habbit. Mind you, when I drive the wifes and park in front of the house and leave it in gear she goes mad!!
