Phone connects flawlessly to radio via BT (iphone 8 )

WHen i ring someone its silent both ends

I cant hear the dial tone and no one can hear me and i cant hear them

Where do I go from here please?

Do I need the steering column control with voice button?

I suspect that you mixed parts of two different Bluetooth/Voicecontrol systems.

A 2007 C-Max did have the old 1st generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system.

A Travelpilot FX is based on the newer 2nd generation system.

1st and 2nd generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol parts are not compatible. The 1st generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system has Mono audio that uses a dedicated audio input on the radio. The 2nd generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system has Stereo audio that uses the AUX input of the radio.

To make this work you have to make sure that you have a 2nd generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module installed and change/modify the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol wiring to the 2nd generation pinout and specifications.

Hi JW

ive found that I need a Ford patch cable to replace one behind glove box to route audio via the BT Module as found someone else with the issue. All other features already work

Cable was only £15 from Ford so will check when it’s here

The audio patch lead is needed to reroute the AUX wiring through the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module when retrofitting the module on the 2nd generation Bluetooh/Voicecontrol wiring. Be aware that different audio systems also have different patch leads.

The patch lead solution however does not correspond with your problem symptoms. On 2nd generation wiring without the correct patch lead installed you do not hear the ringtone or voice from the person at the other end of the line. The person at the other end of the line however will hear you just fine.

In your case there is no audio at both end of the lines. These symptoms correspond with the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol parts not being compatible.

The Travelpilot FX is based on the 2nd generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system. To make the system work with this audio system all other parts also need to be based on the 2nd generation system.

I suggest to check the following things:

* Part number of the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module. The part number must start with 8M5T or alternatively CS7T.
* Pinout of the Bluetooth Voicecontrol wiring. On the 2nd generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system pin numbers 5, 6, 19, 23, 37 and 38 needs to be wired. These are the AUX input and AUX output of the module. If these pins are not wired you have 1st generation wiring.

Below schematics of the 1st generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system and 2md generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system. I made these schematics over 10 Years ago by reverse engineering.

Thank you, very much appreciated. My BT module has part number 8m5t-19g488-an

i Am off to check the wiring now

thank you once again 🙂

So looking at my wiring, it’s definitely 1st generation

my plan now, is that as the aux plug

goes to pin 5, 6, 11 on stereo, I can remove the aux end and re route then to 5, 6, 23 of the BT module, thus making it 2nd generation?

and leaving off the aux plug connector as I don’t plan to use that?

Yes, rerouting the AUX wiring that way should solve the sound problem.

Also be aware that the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module needs to be configured correctly. If not configured for the type of vehicle and type of audio system the module will not work correctly.

ok i'm having some luck.

i can hear the dial tone/wife talking, but she cannot hear me.

ELMconfig reports error B1D79, 13, 2F which i'm led to believe is the microphone issue.

is it possibly the wrong mic? mine has a white plug but the plug has a black plug that it goes into. mic part is 4M5T 19A391 AA

thanks again

A Microphone with part number 4M5T-19A391-AA should work without any problems.

Part number 4M5T-19A391-AA was introduced in 2004.
Part number 8M5T-19A391-AB was introduced in 2008.

Both microphones however have the exact same impedance and are fully interchangeable. Even the newer SYNC microphones are fully compatible.

It is not uncommon that on vehicles without Bluetooth/Voicecontrol only part of the microphone wiring is present. You should check/measure the microphone wiring.

Sorry For the late reply

turns out the loom is in 2 parts for the microphone, and simply wasn’t plugged in to the other under the trim on passenger side small window, plugged in and all working 🙂
