Focus Mk3 Cruise Control button stopped working - how to open and clean contacts?

The steering wheel cruise control button on my mk3 focus has stopped working - when this happened about a year ago the garage said they cleaned the contacts and it started working again. Recently it's failed again so it's time to open it up and clean the contacts or just bite the bullet and replace the button assembly.

Does anybody have information on how to open this up to clean the button contacts?

I never got a response but I'm still looking for a solution! Could anyone advise how I should proceed?

Cleaning contacts rarely works for long in my experience.  Just replace the switch imo.

Is there any information on how to remove / get in to the button / switch assembly?

You just need to remove the airbag and then the switch is screwed to the inside of the wheel casing.

The airbag is held in by a big spring clip that needs to be levered out each side.

Can probably find a better video if you search YouTube but this is the first one I found...

Thanks! I managed to find a (likely aftermarket copy) listing for a switch:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32841881924.html

I think I may have managed to get the part number for this part:

DT1T-9E740-AA

aka

DT1T9E740AA

Though this part number seems to also find a bunch of similar but incorrect other cruise control button assemblies.

I have no idea if £61 is a good price or not but I haven't found it elsewhere yet... I hoped there might be some way to get an OEM part.

May be worth checking eBay? Although you might not get a brand new switch you might have some luck. I retrofitted cruise control to two focuses and got the steering wheels with switches for £25 each.

I think this is the correct Ford service part number (the type the dealers use) - 1782873.  If you contact your closest main dealer and ask them to quote a price for it, that should give you a good base price to work from.  Oddly, I can't find any new on eBay.

I think all of the superceeding part numbers will still work (the dash type number you have) as long as it's from a car with the same spec as yours - presumably basic cruise & limiter.  Adaptive cruise switches are different, as are non-limiter switches.  From a quick eBay search I've come across these used, but would suggest double checking before purchasing any.

Or as above, it's actually cheaper to buy a whole used wheel to take the switch from.
