Hi all,

Anyone got a phone holder that fits the vents on a MK8 which is sturdy (iPhone 12 Pro Max) and reliable?

Brodit

Not cheap and you need the mount and a phone holder but much better than the vent, sucker or magnetic

ProClip

Keep your device within easy sight and reach in your car! The ProClip makes it easier and safer to use handheld devices in vehicles. The ProClip is a mounting bracket that you attach to the dashboard of your car. Onto the ProClip, you can install any accessory, e.g. a holder for mobile phone or other communication device.

The ProClip is car specific, it is customized for each  car model and has a perfect fit. The ProClip offers a firm mounting platform and is available in multiple positions for most vehicles. Discreet design that blends in well with the interior. Safe, neat and convenient!

I saw that but it makes accessing the AC dials weird...

Had mine for over 3 years and its never caused any problem - and it sits just above the power socket/usb port so you have a short USB lead.

I agree and also recommend Brodit kit. I have the bracket that clamps onto the door frame above the vent and also has the socket for the usb cable. Just drop my phone into the cradle and away I go.

Ah!  Oh well, I have the touch screen to solve that issue!

Which is probably why they didn't carry it over from the mk7

True.  That holder looks good, my only issue is access to the dials behind!

Top is volume which is on the steering wheel, below is the blower setting - which I have on auto but you can reach under the phone, you can access the heated screen buttons without too much problem

Well done, you need to get a "short" USB lead so you don't have loads of cable - and get one with a L shape plug into the phone as its a lot neater

Why do you need a phone holder, just drop it in the tray behind the gear lever, you can plug it into the USB socket there and charge it or use it instead of the inbuilt sat nav on the cars screen.

I like Waze, and the onscreen version is not very good.

I thought the onscreen version was just a copy of the version on the phone?

Why not? It keeps the phone in a decent place now and frees up the tray!  I have a 12 Pro Max and it's awkward in that tray anyway!!

Each to their own.

It's arrived, installed and tested.  It's well built and easy to fit.  All trays and areas now free of phones!

I used to drop mine on the shelf behind the gearstick Blatto, but on long journeys I found it got very hot for some reason. Now in a similar fitting to that of Tiexen's and like him have very little difficulty with the heater controls behind it.

Took the BRODIT out.  It looks out of place, clucky and catches my ring (oooh err) every time I select first.

Chucking it in the tray resumed.
