Mike_Puma
Hi All New to the forum after recently picking up the partners ST Line X Puma a couple of days ago. Car is excellent and performance from a such a small engine is impressive, however i know there is the 155ps model out there and that made me wonder if anyone had mapped the 125 to unlock some more performance. For example the specialists at Puma Speed offer an ECU map up to 165ps without any other mods to the car. This seems quite an aggressive remap and to be honest my partner nearly broke her last cars turbo due to a lack of engagement (her steady driving style), so it isn't really required. I am however interested to know if anybody has done a map or equivalent and what the results were like? was it worth it? I know one of the Fiesta's comes with 140ps so the engine must be capable of more without putting any undue stress on the car. Thanks in advance. Eric Bloodaxe
Hi Mike, Not much around so far for the MHEV 1.0 engine found in the current Fiesta, Focus and Puma. Superchips do a remap to a claimed 147 bhp. (The 140ps you mention is the earlier (wet belt) version of the engine, Pumaspeed have a conversion to take this to 205bhp.) Bear in mind that your car is still under Ford warranty so any issues caused by the remap will not be covered, though Superchips do offer their own (limited) warranty. Also, bear in mind that the bluefin takes a little over 10 minutes to return back to standard and is totally unnoticeable once removed, so if the car does have to go back in, you can remove. Can my Superchips remap be detected by the dealer? In most cases, no. Some manufacturers can tell that something has changed, but not necessarily what. If you wish to return your vehicle back to the original remap, or “stock”, you will need to do one of the following. If your remap was installed by our tech team, you will need to call them out to get it removed for which a small charge will be made. If you have a Bluefin or Powergate, just plug it into the OBD Port and put the vehicle back to original.
Mike_Puma
Thanks for the feedback folks, it's unlikely i will get one done but it does leave me wondering if the current power output might struggle when we occasionally have 4 adults in the car. However most of the time it's her and the little one in it so not an issue. There does however seem to be a few options out there for me to keep in mind. We only got the car 4 days ago so want to run with it in for a good a while anyway, to get a feel for the car as is.
Stoopo
It shouldn’t struggle. I was out with four of us - all adults - in a non MhEV Focus Active X Mk4 last week. The 125bhp was more than enough. My mates a quick driver and I tried to get him to try Sport mode but he said it was fast enough as it was. Sport in my 155 MhEV is like a remap in itself. Awesome difference in power. Remember though that the 155 has a larger Turbo.
