Focused
How often are u ment to replace the cat as I'm feelin like my car not performing as it should and was wondering if it could be the cat my car is a 51plate ford focus 1.6 zetec se and hasn't had a new cat since it came out the factory thanks in advance The cat went on my car, a 54 plate 1.8. I was told that they quite often fail at around 60k miles, which mine has on the clock. You can tell as the car feels like it is developing alot less power, has no go in it and struggles to rev cleanly. At low speeds it is okay, but hills on the motorway really made it suffer and it sounds rough at higher speeeds. Got a new cat fitted at an exhaust centre, and sourced the part from a car spares specialist for about £200 all in (Ford quoted £500!). HeadShoT2009
If I buy a cat will I beable to fit it myself or does the car have to have a reset like when the new cars have a dpf also I wen on euro car parts website and and looked at cats they had 1 called React Catalytic Converter (Non Type Approved) for £72.97 and 1 called React Catalytic Converter (Type Approved) for £93.91 but what does it mean when it says non type approved and then the othe saying type approved . Thanks in advance if you ne new cat the car will feel choked as it wont develop as much power than it should at 70mph youll notice it there will be no response when accelerating usually youre emissions light will illuminate and youll find that youll fail the emissions on youre mot ide have the car inspected before you start throwing cash out for a new cat 60k is just a number some cars go far longer some go less theres no expected life expectancy for a cat they simply go when they go
jay1981
Type approved cats are for cars from 2001 onwards. Sypmtoms of a failed cat are are loss of power, car misfiring - feels like you're running out of fuel and sometimes a rattle from the exhaust sounds like a heat shield rattling. Cats are pretty straightfoward to change, however getting the old one off can be difficult due to siezed nuts and studs snapping. DPFs are on diesel cars only. Focused
Yeah I know dpf are for diesel only but was wondeing whether cats on petrols where similar in the fact did u have to have them reset after having it changed If the engine warning light is on, it will need to be reset. I got mine done by a friendly mechanic who has the diagnostic equipment. Hope that helps.
