Wayne Perkins
Hi all, Thanks in advance and sorry if there is a thread about this. Our son has a Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost 2012 plate with 57,000 miles. Recently we have struggled to sometimes get it into gear, when coming down the gears. 1st and 2nd gears. Having to stop the car and turn it off. We’ve read it could be the synchros ? Could it be the clutch cable, but other gears were okay ? Any idea on the costs for this ? We’re not sure what to do, and didn’t want a big expense happening. Appreciate the advice. Thank you !
isetta
I don’t know the answer, I can tell you there is no clutch cable, it is hydraulic clutch. It does have gear change cables, one cable for moving gear lever backwards/forwards, one cable for sideways movement. I suppose the sideways cable could possibly cause this problem
JW1982
On the IB5 gearbox that this car has worn synchromesh rings of the 1st and 2nd gear are usually caused by the high torque of the 1.0 ECOboost. On this engine/gearbox combination excessive gearbox wear caused by the high engine torque is quite common.

There is indeed, but don't worry about not being able to find it, the search facility on here is not the best. Unfortunately as you will see this issue is quite common as Wilco says. https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/74395-synchro-ford-fiesta-10-ecoboost/
