Steering Wobble When Braking

My wife has a 05 reg Fiesta Zetec 1.4 TDCi with a relatively low mileage (40k).

We had wheel wobble issues when braking that started last year.

Took car to local independent to have discs and pads replaced in Oct 09, problem resolved.

Problem recurred in Jan 10 so took car back and got discs and pads replaced FOC.

Problem back again now but only when braking from between 30 and 50 mph. High and low speed braking seems OK.

It can't be right to go thorugh discs and pads so quickly so is there some other problem?

Also, major steering wobble at 60 to 70 mph but that may be a separate balancing issue.

Any advice welcome......

Check wheel balancing maybe? My tracking is out after hitting all the potholes in East Anglia, which means my tyres have worn un-evenly, which means I get steering wheel vibrations. It is also noticable breaking heavily.

A good thing to do would be to spend a bit of brass and get your wheels laser tracked and corrected.

I would imagine this would solve the issue.

the wheel wobble at 60/70 could be just a balance problem, as for the discs and pads the hub carrier and calipers should be cleaned before the discs are fitted, if not the new discs could run untrue and should be checked wiyh a dial gauge after fitting, and calipers checked for free movement, if not it could cause premature problems. if you can get the discs checked with a dial gauge this will tell you if the discs have warped again.
