Water logged BCM

Hey all. Found online a lot if posts regarding the windscreen washer bottle pump leaks and water get into the Bcm itself.

currently fighting with my car, trying to plumb up the water getting into the car.

is it best to just replace the washer pump? 
 

How does the water managing to get in? As I’ve used sealant around the rubber grommet where the wiring travel through etc but water still getting into the Bcm ☹️

Any advice or guidance gratefully received.

The situation of water getting to the BCM from the screen wash pump is more complex than you might imagine. On the cars that are affected by this strange issue the culprit is a faulty pump.

Water manages to find its way from inside the screen wash pump to the electrical connections. Once the water gets to the wire it travels inside the cable getting between the individual strands of the wire and the outer insulation. By a process of capillary action the water is draw through the wire until eventually it reaches the other end - the BCM.

The official Ford fix is to replace the screen wash pump with the modified version which is electrically sealed. The wiring harness between the pump and the BCM also has to be replaced as its impossible to dry the wire, and also it will be corroded.

On older cars it is probably not a cost effective thing to replace the harness, and so cutting the original wire off at both ends and running a new separate wire is more practical. Of course the screen wash pump still needs to be replaced with the 'non-leaky' type, and the connector of the BCM may be damaged and also require repair.

Where do you get the updated versions and how easy are they to replace?

Replacement screen wash pump can be bought from your Ford main dealers parts department.  They are easy to change on the screen wash tank once you get to them.

http://www.ecuexpress.co.uk/ These folk will do a plug and play Bcm for £185. 
 

this is software copied to the new one and have keys coded as well.

I’ve seen a YouTube video showing this fix and the replacement plug end.

I’m think on getting this plug and snip the existing wires and solder etc to existing wires.

same goes for the pump.

Looks like a possible option if you need to replace your BCM.

I would run a new wire from a new pump through to the BCM, I would not try and reuse the old wire.

Also, can you buy second hand Bcm and have forScan install the built-in config and program it with keys as well? Or do I just go for the new plug and play?

Forscan can not program the Focus MK3/MK3.5 PATS immobilizer system.

Full security access to the Ford FDRS diagnostic network is required to reprogram the Focus MK3/MK3.5 PATS system. Apart from official Ford dealers and a few specialists there are virtually no other companies that have full security access so this is basically a dealer only job.

Well, it was a mild day today so I decided to do a bit of preventative maintenance.

On my 2006 petrol Focus what should I find but the start of a leak and traces of blue/green corrosion under the big green BCM connector.

As the above advice goes, it must be coming from the screen washer.

Could be wrong I suppose, didn't check the wire colours but from previous comments it looks the first thing to blame.

It was easy to clean up and now looks as if nothing had happened. I have ordered a new pump, will fit it ASAP and check frequently to see if there is further leakage at the BCM connector.

I’ve a question folks, in replacing the washer bottle wiring/plug. I’m seeing wiring looms for sale. Do they come with this part as well? If yes then I’ll just buy that and replace it all.

I’ve also seen washer bottle wiring/plug. So don’t want to buy the loom if all I need is the wiring/plug.

Well awaiting for the wiring for the wash bottle.

I took a look at the washer pump and can confirm there was indeed water where the plug sits in the pump.

also had a look at the plug and it too looked unhealthy. Excuse the bad photo but was hard to get one.

so once wiring in place and new pump bought. I will use external sealant around the new plug etc.

just hope there is no serious damage to the Bcm. As much as I’d love to buy a new one at £185 but with the dreaded Xmas around the corner. It’ll have to wait until next year if I can. Happy motoring. 😂🤣😂

If you can get some photos of how it's routed at the other end that would be great. Although there is limited space in my engine bay with it being a 2.0.

Hello everyone

I have a ford galaxy 2014 2.0l diesel bcm with corroded post which snapped off and is stuck in the plug - i am about to wire in a replacement plug, but reading this Im wondering if water has got in via the washer pump, and does anyone know if galaxys have the same problem please ?

It's the right age for the issue with the screen wash pump, but I've never seen anyone mention the problem on anything other than the Mondeo.

We had corroded BCM issues in our 2012 S-Max.

The AA guy diagnosed (and showed me) water droplets on the BCM.  The local Ford dealer replaced the BCM but said there was no sign of a leak.

We part exchanged it shortly after that
