MK8_MSPORT_WRC
On the MK8 Fiesta (not sure if the same on MK4 Focus) I have noticed that the coolant temperature gauge never quite reaches the centre position of 90 degrees. When engine temperature is up to optimal level after a long drive the gauge needle always sits just below at around 85 - 87 degrees c. Has anybody else noticed this and thinks it is normal? Every previous car that I've owned, as far as I know, the gauge always sits in the centre position. I don't think it is an issue and can't see it being a problem although it would be good to know if this is the same on others' Fiestas. Thanks for your answers.
alexp999
I assume you mean coolant temperature gauge not fuel? My Mk4 Focus is the same, it's at "59 mins to the hour", never quite the middle. It is a computed approximated measurement anyway, so as not to worry people about the true fluctuations going on in the engine.
MK8_MSPORT_WRC
Yes sorry - no idea why I said fuel gauge as I meant to coolant temp gauge! Glad you understood what I meant though. Thanks for confirming your MK4 Focus is the same and for the useful info. FYI this was my first post as I am new to the forum - is there any way I can edit post titles / the posts themselves? If so can I edit my mistake of 'fuel gauge' to 'coolant temp gauge' as the title doesn't really make sense! Appreciate your help. Cheers. alanfp
Don't worry about it. That's a lot closer to '90' than on my Focus. As said above, it is not a high accuracy display and is dependant on a not very sophisticated thermostat, so will fluctuate quite a bit too.
StephenFord
Probably not relevant (!) but my Mk2 Focus never reaches the center mark either...
Eric Bloodaxe
There's at least one other thread on this somewhere. If I remember right, most, if not all, Mk 8 owners reported their temp gauges as sitting just below halfway, as does mine.
Ryan_Tango
Same on my MK8 ST, everything runs perfect though 😄
hellohelloyou
Mine is exactly the same (a 2020 Focus). The Ford dealer says it is okey but I think it is a bit odd to make a gauge that is not symetric as standard. However - (since my car is still under warranty) - is there anything that could be changed/fixed to have it in the middle? Or is it a Ford characteristics? A bit odd I must say....
