TonySJ
Hi all, I have a 2013 focus and the radio/sync has packed up working after issues of loud cracking through the Speakers. Well documented problem!. I've decided that I need to find a similar unit and screen ( believe they are paired to work) and my radio has the following model number BM5T-18C815-HL Ford have quoted £580 for a replacement unit. Ouch!! I have a number of questions regarding this swap. 1, What part numbered unit will work, the cars not got satnav? 2, I believe the new unit will need to be programmed/coded to the VIN as there is no radio code with the Mk3 so how much is this likely to cost? 3, I'm in Derbyshire and does anyone know anyone/firm who can recode/pair the new unit to the car? 4, anyone able to offer advice on this swap, some may have done this swap rather than pay Ford £580. Many thanks Tony.

Any from a mk3 focus that has sync 1. 1 hour ago, TonySJ said: 2, I believe the new unit will need to be programmed/coded to the VIN as there is no radio code with the Mk3 so how much is this likely to cost? Nope. A like for like part is plug and play. Just make sure you get one that is for sync 1, has DAB (if you have it now) and doesn't have satnav. 1 hour ago, TonySJ said: 3, I'm in Derbyshire and does anyone know anyone/firm who can recode/pair the new unit to the car? See above. 1 hour ago, TonySJ said: 4, anyone able to offer advice on this swap, some may have done this swap rather than pay Ford £580. It's dead easy to swap, you just need some trim removal tools and some screwdrivers (maybe some torx bits too). I'd imagine there's loads of videos on YouTube showing you how to remove the stereo better than I can explain on here.
TonySJ
Luke4efc, Thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering if you have done this swap as on the net there's so much contradicting info and that's why I asked about it. I've "read" that a unit from a 2016 focus is the best bet to solve the speaker cracking issue. Have you heard this before? Just 1 more but there is a lot of slightly different part numbers gor the radio unit but will any work as long as tgry are sync 1 and look identical? Yes I've seen a number of YouTube videos about removal. Taken it out a couple of times to try and resolve the issue. Did work for 2 weeks when I opened the unit up and disconnected the CD ribbon but eventually that failed!! Thanks again. T.

Have you heard this before? I cant comment on the radio crackling, just I retrofitted DAB when I had my mk7.5 fiesta. 22 minutes ago, TonySJ said: Just 1 more but there is a lot of slightly different part numbers gor the radio unit but will any work as long as tgry are sync 1 and look identical? Just double check the connections on the back are the same.
