Recommendations for a detailing kit for a newbie

Featured Replies

Right guys,

As my ST line is my first decent car, I want to try and keep it looking relatively clean and respectable for as long as I can. My previous car only got washed twice in the 3 years I had it, as I reckon it was the dirt holding it together!

With that in mind, do you have any suggestions for a decent starter kit, bearing in mind I have no intention of going to 'car cleaning guru' level of detail, just a good selection of kit for regular maintenance washes so I can keep her looking her best (yes my car is a she😋)

I've seen the usual Autoglym & Meguiars bundles, but I don't fancy shelling out over £100 on some shampoo, wax and other bits & bobs...

Do you have a snow foam lance? If so, my cheat is to use Autoglym Polar Seal instead of waxing it multiple times a year.

Once I've got the paintwork dead clean then all I use is autoglym pure shampoo to wash it (it's like the cheapest on Amazon that isnt utter tosh).

You may need a bottle of tar and glue remover (i got mine from car chem I think, i found the autoglym and other common ones to be too weak).

I don't even bother with a dedicated wheel cleaner anymore. If you keep ontop of it then you shouldn't get any baked on brake dust that requires harsher chemicals than regular car shampoo.

Obviously a wash mitt, drying towel and a few microfibres come in handy also.
