Parts horror

Featured Replies

Having just bought a bashed up, sh#tty pickup to track to the beach and back with the dog (Ranger XLT THUNDER 2.5l diesel) , and with the intention of tidying up over time to last for a few more years at least, I am now horrified to find that obtaining part panels and cills for the damned thing is nigh on impossible.... I now understand what the one parts store was saying that they found dealing with their suppliers next to impossible. Where oh where can I get these parts?? ... I don't even seem to have any options to order bits made to order either (cost prohibitive though I expect this to be).... The local mechanic I chat with was less than encouraging when I said the mot was coming up soon (UK), and the mot garage lifted her up, banged a couple of times releasing some rust and debris, and said "take it away - it's not worth you doing it"..... Having stripped the cab and carpet, I had found there were two stress fractures next to seats - obviously two f*t ba#tards before - (easily solved with a bit of welding - or so I thought), but otherwise the cab internally is intact. And despite the low gearing (she is a workhorse after all) she starts and runs well. Thirsty, but feels strong (only 115 miles). There is some cill rot on the inner under floor faces, though this isn't universal, and at the offside rear corner outer face. Obviously, these are mot failures.... as is the corrosion in parts of the front wheel wells...i hadn't worried about this sort of rot when buying as I anticipated (Foolish-FOOLISH) that being a Ford, parts would be sourced  even if from the dealer at a price ..... Its crazy to think..... My 17 yr old Ford is a right off.... but I could get parts for a cortina, escorts, fiesta, zephyr.... And even parts for my 1973 Triumph are still available. But best of all, my Landrover is a year short of me being a 1963 series 2a......and I can seemingly repair it more comprehensively now than I could 33 years ago - when it was last done...... And the central chassis area on that is still sound.

As I need to learn to weld, this is my last course of action.... treat the Ford as a learning project for the Landy....

... I bought a FORD, so I could get the parts..... 😳🤷🏻‍♂️😳🥴🤯🤕....!!!

Anyone any suggestions?

Regards David C

Ps... I did miss a broken spring and a small stress crack by the spring hanger.... But i can get suspension bits I've found.... If only someone will think she's worth it to repair and weld that bit for me first.. 🙏🙏🙏

I worked at ford garage and we used Mazda parts a few times when ford didn't have stock and generally were cheaper .

Thanks for the inside info, Ian... Ive already found the wheel arch parts.... Your kind info has reopened the possibility that "Katy X" (CW54 KTX... Yes... sad... I know...) may just still be salvageable.... 😊😊... Rest assured, should she have a baby, I shall request she name her/him/it/lb-g-gn/no-fixed-abode in your honour....!!.....
