I have just bought a 2006 Transit Connect van, I am having problems with the ignition being difficult to turn, when it turns the van will sometimes start and sometimes it just turns over, I think I need to get a new key cut, can anyone tell me if the new key has to be programmed to the vehicle?

My key has a small blue square on it near to where the key fits onto the ring

It will have a transponder built in so you would need to have it coded. Simple job to be fair on a Ford. Any car thief should be able to help you do it!

if you're referring to a key fob, then you may need to replace the battery in the fob. A weak battery in the fob could lead to several other issues.

Just read the OP again. if it turns over or starts it must be getting the code else it wouldn't do that. It is after all just a CANBUS trigger device.
