Thanks i am also wanting to know this too. i normally get boshe ones and i dont do anything to the gap but after reading your post, i had to google it. apparently it does the engine good and idles very good if gapped properly. just found this: its quite old but seems quite useful info. south_bound
Does it become obvious if the gap becomes out of spec, like the engine is ding lumpy or something? It's just that my wife's VW is coming up to 15 years old and never checked the plugs in all that time.
Jimpster
if you buy the specific plugs they usually come pre gapped

I really wouldn't want to have to loosen 15 year old plugs!

Thanks Tom, sounds like a good reason to leave them as they are then. I suppose you will say the same thing about the original injectors fitted to my 15 year old Mk 2 Focus diesel?

DV6 injectors & injector nuts tend to loosen themselves over time, they're probably not too bad. I wouldn't want to risk the glowplugs if they haven't been changed in 15 years though. Fix-Or-Repair-Daily
I bought Bosch plugs from euro car parts. Yes the spark plug gap does affect running and how complete the burn is inside the engine. I found a video on YouTube saying it should be 0.7mm but someone in the comments said it should be 0.6mm. JW1982
Ford prescribes to adjust the spark plug gap of the 1.6 ECOboost to 0.8 mm. The following spark plug gaps are prescribed by Ford for the Focus MK3/MK3.5: 1.6 Duratec TI-VCT = 1,20 mm (0,7-0,8 mm for LPG versions). 1.0 ECOboost = 0,7 mm. 1.5 ECOboost = 0,8 mm. 1.6 ECOboost = 0,8 mm. 2.0 Duratec HE TI-VCT = 0,9 mm. 2.0 ECOboost ST = 0,8 mm. 2.3 ECOboost RS = 0,75 mm 2

JW1982
Yes it will matter. For your 1.6 Duratec engine the spark plug gap needs to be set to 1.2 mm.

Tizer
And I can remember when if you couldn't find your feeler gauges to set your points then the thickness of your cigarette packet cardboard was about the same.

So 1mm and 0.2mm. (Or any other combination that makes 1.2 if you fancy a challenge. )

Jimpster
there are NO silly qustions, just ones to which you dont know the answer yet, plugs usually come pregapped for the make model but can move due to knocking and banging always best to check before just throwing them in.
