Bigtone46
2007 Focus cc3 cabriolet. The roof retracts perfectly OK and front windows work OK but when roof is up both front windows go down and stay down until roof is down when they work OK again! Can't find a Ford dealer willing to look at it, Ford UK say try a ford body shop but they won't look at it either. I can buy an ECU for £99.95 from roof motors UK but would like a wiring diagram first. Any one on the forum know of a link to a wiring diagram please? DaveT70
The system has sensors to tell it it's in the fully up position, one of these is obviously not working
unofix
There are about 12 sensors/switches for the operation of the roof. It is not an easy job to find the one with a problem.
TomsFocus
Forscan may be able to tell you which sensor is at fault. Though it could also be a wiring fault from that sensor of course. I'm a bit surprised the main dealer didn't even offer to plug it in? Easy £75 for them!

I think you are correct Tom, using FORScan will show which sensor/switch is not operating, but I seem to recall the problem that nearly everyone has is actually finding the physical location on the car

Bigtone46
Thanks gents, that's another step forward but I think I still need a wiring diagram to check what the sensors should be putting out ie short when closed/ nil when open? The best you are likely to get easily is a Haynes workshop manual with some wiring diagrams. FORScan will confirm if switches are open circuit or short circuit and should highlight any that are incorrectly operating.
Bigtone46
Thanks, I'll try for a haynes manual first.
Bigtone46
Hi all, Haynes don't do a manual which covers the cabriolet and all my local Ford dealers ( all given to me by Ford UK) say they can't diagnose faults on the roof so still need a wiring diagram which seems to be as rare as rocking horse S**t. TomsFocus
Have you tried Forscan yet? The only chance you've got of finding diagram is either someone that works for Ford with full access to ETIS or someone that works at an indy garage with access to Autodata. I don't think it'll be readily available online.
Bigtone46
Hi Tom, I've tried all my local ford dealers within 30 miles and they all say they can't scan a CC3 cabriolet! Ford UK is no help either, all they give me is the dealers I have already tried. Still trying your suggestions for Autodata and Ford ETIS. I have a friend who had a Ford ranger which burnt out a wiring loom and Ford couldn't source the correct loom, no-one local was willing to rebuild the loom from scratch so he was forced to scrap it! Might end up doing the same for the Focus which would be a shame as it's low mileage and good condition!

It's an app for individuals to use on a laptop or smart phone. Costs about £20 for the adapter but more than pays for itself the first time it's used! Sorry that wasn't explained earlier, it's mentioned so often on here I just assume everyone knows what it is by now! It's also not true that main dealers can't find cabriolet faults on their tool. Literally a month ago we had a member on here looking for a part after Ford had provided the fault code but then didn't know which part needed replacing or how to do it! The search is pretty ineffective on here but you may find that thread if you have a bit of spare time. @iantt Might be able to help with a wiring diagram... Bigtone46
Hi Gents, thanks Tom for the link to Ian, he has sent me the roof wiring diagrams and I have just found the local Volks shop guy thinks he has the diagnostic software so between us we might finally solve the problem. (Found him through the friend of a friend). Got to take it on a dry day though as the windows won't close! Once again thanks Tom and especially Ian. Watch this space for results Tony
Peter King
Reading through your post, did you have any luck getting your windows sorted? Regarding finding a main dealer to deal with the CC, when we bought our CC brand new back in 2007 not all Ford main dealers were designated as CC dealers. They used to equip and train a specialist technician in a designated area dealership. Not sure if that still applies 15 years later but it might be a reason why people find it difficult to get support from non CC dealerships.
Bigtone46
Hi all, thanks to every one who pitched in with suggestions. Found a roof repair company in Chester called Hoodtech run by a young guy called Charlie. All he does is soft tops and hard tops, manual and electric. Very busy, it took 4 weeks to get an appointment. Only 2 hours away from me so arrived at 10.00 and by 10.45 he had found the sensors that were the cause of the problem. Very clean workshop and a nice guy. He wanted the car for a week to suss out whether sensors, wiring or ECU. Turned out to be the ECU. New ECU and all back to normal complete with a warranty. Only problem was it cost £700 but had to be done or car was not worth anything. Daughter now happy and is keeping the car. As an aside, came back from Chester to north Worcestershire on 4 buses with my bus pass! Took 5 hours to do 80 miles but at least it was free! Peter, even the dealer she bought it off has no-one trained on CC!
