I went to refill the aircon gas yesterday and have been quoted £400 for parts & labour & aircon regas.

The quote includes these :

Renew line between compressor and condenser £192 + VAT

Discharge pipe £165 + VAT

Does the quote sound right?

You don't state how much the regas is? It does sound high, I have been using an A/C guy for 20 years and there is no way he would quote me such a price, as he knows his chance of me giving him it would be zero! Over the years he has worked on 5 of my cars, replacing condensers, compressors, repairing pipe leaks etc.

At the very least, I would get another quote, preferable from a one man band, working from a home shed (like my guy), with low overheads and decades of experience fixing A/C systems...

Pipes don't often fail.  More likely that the seals in the ends of the pipe are leaking.  I'd be concerned about the state of the condenser if the pipes themselves are showing signs of age.

Also, I'm not entirely sure which one they're referring to as the discharge pipe (and I'm slightly reluctant to Google that phrase lol).  Don't suppose they provided any further info on that?
