Smoke coming from underneath the car

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!
Need assistance from you guys. Recently bought my first pick-up, Ford Ranger 2014. After driving it for a couple of days smoke started to come from underneath the car (starts to smoke after I’ve driven for a couple of miles). A dealer that sold the car said it’s normal because it’s most likely doing DPF Regeneration and said smoking should disappear after a longer drive.

I’ve driven the car twice now for a longer drives (each time around 2.5 hours with an average speed of 60 miles/100km per hour). But the smoke still comes up after I’ve driven it for 10 minutes or so.

I’ve uploaded the video on YouTube with the smoke and where it comes from exactly

thanks in advance.

Just noticed that there is a slight oil leak aswell but it’s not really on top of the spot where smoke comes from so that can’t be oil burning.

That's quite a bit of smoke! Does it smoke under the bonnet too? Near the turbo. There may be a hole/crack in the exhaust downpipe or turbo area.

Could even be dpf trying to regen with the fuel vaporiser squirting fuel in the exhaust but the vapouriser glow plug not working. Think you need to take it to a garage who will actually look at it .

This is where smoke come out exactly

Looks like you need a new downpipe for starters. And go from there.

I’ve got the same issue, the advantage I have is my son in law is a master technician

for Ford and it is only trying to regenerate and needs a good drive out , my problem is probably the same as yours I only tootle around the engines are made to work so

you may need to give it a thrashing more often!
