Continual tyre deflation

Featured Replies

My wife's TPMS on her 2016 Focus keeps informing her that the pressures are low - on checking they are!

Inflating the tyres only lasts a few days.

As the tyres were original fitments (6 years old) I replaced them but the problem persists.

The traditional spittle test seems to say the valves are not leaking.

TPMS is doing its job.

Could the wheels be porous?

Any other reason?

Did you have new valves fitted with the tyres? It can sometimes leak at the base of the stem.

Otherwise if there is any buckles it could let air out, but I'd have expected the tyre fitting place to notice and tell you if they saw any

How low are they, is it slowly going down over time, or does it suddenly appear low, could someone be letting the air out?

The valves do not look new.

The pressures drop enough to trigger the TPMS - around 25/26 psi - after about 7 to 10 days.

I did think that the garage would have fitted new valves as that is what they are expected to do for Black Circles!

Are the valves integral with the TPMS or completely independent?

If they are alloy wheels then its entirely possible. Particularly as you imply more than one wheel is affected.
