pugwash5
HI All, My 52 plate tddi broke down recently, it started losing power getting progressively worse before stopping after about a mile. I had been driving enthusiastically along a twisty, and hilly single track road. I called the AA and by the time they arrived it started again but only ran for about a mile before doing the same thing again. There are no warning lights on. The fuel is definitely diesel. I was 99% sure that it would be a blocked fuel filter, but the main agent says it's likely to be a fuel pump or timing problem. I had thought that there was a small fuel filter in the tank, I had it taken to the agent as i was on my way to the airport for a holiday and wanted it ready for my return. The agent says he has run diagnostics on the computer showing a fuel pump problem and wants to do further tests to check the timing and a solenoid, he hasn't changed the filter or done any tests on the fuel flow. Would the diagnostic computer pick up the fuel flow? Is he trying to up my bill unneccesarily? any ideas anyone? I'm worried he is extracting the Michael but he does sound plausible. mintalkin
i am with you on checking the fuel flow first, its common on the tddi for the lift pump to play up so this along with the filter should be checked first. also the crank sensor starting to break down can give the same symptons.but the agent should know what hes doing and is in the best position with having the car, mention the lift pump/filter and sensor to him and see if these have been checked.
