Cost to replace front wing?

A couple of years ago my driver side front wing showed quite a bit of rust, so when I had an 'insurance' claim when a woman bumped into me whilst I was parked, I took advantage and got the wing replaced too. Now, my passenger wing is cosmetically unsightly and I'm thinking of getting it replaced too. I can get a pattern wing from Europarts fro £45, but roughly how much in hours labour & paint should I be looking at to replace?

You would have to ask around. It all depends if you want them to blend it in also cos if they just paint the wing alone it may have a slight mismatch to the rest and it also depends on the quality of work you want you get what you pay for. When my Mk2 passenger side got scraped by a dodgy parker the insurance got it done and it cost well over £1500 and he had to blend it in. He also fixed rear arch rust which didn't last long. Get some quotes from local body shops until you are happy.

Pattern panels are often a false economy.  The initial saving gets quickly wiped out the extra labour needed to make it fit properly and extra paint prep to get a decent finish.  They also rust much quicker than OE panels.

I'd expect around £500 to prep, paint and fit a pattern Mk2 wing but as above, only way to know for sure is ask for quotes.

Crikey, I'll just get use to the rust then, it doesn't economically make sense to spend it on a car that's not even worth twice that. Plus, I simply ain't got that kind of money...

You could try someone like the Parts Gateway (not sure if they operate in Ireland though). If you're not too fussy about a precise colour match you might be able to pick up a wing in your colour.

Check ebay. You might be lucky and find a better condition original. Shipping cost could be a problem if it is not already in Ireland.

Some companies are now putting on £150 P&P on replacement wings to Northern Ireland as they really don't want the hassle!

ebay.ie

That would be southern Ireland. He would have to pay import duty 🤣

or he could drive over the boarder have the new wing fitted and smuggle it back to NI 😂

There are some on ebay.ie

Thanks for your recommendation. However, it just opens a whole political can of worms! LOL eBay.ie is based in Southern Ireland. Corresponding shipping charges are still huge because technically Northern Ireland is a different country, and with us being left behind from Brexit, for all intents and purposes, for 'Great Britain' we are also now a separate country!

That's why the Europarts wing at £45 is so attractive as they can ship it internally to a local branch here which is a 10 minute drive from me. I may still consider it as the driver one I replaced a while back also came from them, and it still looks as good as new. (and the bodyshop that fitted it said it was an easy fit)

Why not ask them for a proper quote instead of our estimates?

Easy, I can ask you from the comfort of my own armchair, getting proper quotes involve me getting up off my lazy *rse and driving places
