Getting the VIN number for my dads old escort

Hi everyone! Is there any way I can find the VIN number for my dads old escort from the early 90’s it was stolen but it’s still in his name is there any way I can find the VIN number for it?

1984 Ford Escort 1.3L beige

Number plate- B87 GVO

Last Taxed- 1993

P.S. I want to find it because we want to transfer the private plate on it to another car.

Isnt it on his log book, surely if its in his name you have documentation to prove this no?

And ive checked that reg in 2 of my data base sources and it says it doesnt exist?

The car was stolen in 1992-93 and since then he’s lost the logbook so we were going to reapply for a V5C but you need the VIN number to do so, if you look on the DVLA website it comes up.

And I don’t think it needs a current MOT to do this only if we were putting a private plate on it

I expect that he made an insurance claim for the car when it was stolen.

 He would have had to give the insurance company the V5c document (and any car keys) before they would pay out. Also once the insurance company paid out the vehicle legally becomes their property including the registration.  There is or was a procedure in place for owners of vehicles stolen and not recovered to get their private registration back. This required the mandatory 12 months waiting period (just encase the vehicle was found). Then you could apply to the DVLA for a temporary holding certificate with the registration. This had to be completed within 12 months of being eligible to apply. After this time the vehicle and the registration number is considered lost.

If you pay for a full vehicle search then many companies will give you the last 5 digits of the VIN. It would not be very hard to work out the full VIN for the vehicle once you know the end numbers.

He never claimed on insurance as it wouldn’t have been worth it so the reg is still registered to the car and the car is still in his name

Ahh… I get what you mean 😉 I think that shows how old the car is no info really shows up about the car with that 😂
