SQUEALING AUXILLARY BELT

Hi All,

I have a 2017 Tourneo Custom 2.0l, the problem i have started several months ago.

The auxiliary belt started to squeal and then snapped; a replacement belt was bought (6PK 1413) Tourneo Custom 2017 with A/C.

My mechanic commented that this belt was to big for my vehicle, The alternative was a PK6 1395 Tourneo Custom 2017 without A/C,

This belt fitted perfect; however, the squeal was still present, to cut a long story short the following parts have been replaced to stop the squeal,

Power Steering Pump x2, Tensioner x2, Bottom Ball Joints, Track Rod Ends and a Steering Rack. Guess what Squeal still there.

The engine ticks over at 940 rpm if this is increased to 1000 rpm the squeal disappears, 

Any advice on what to do next will be greatly appreciated, as i now have several Bald Mechanics who cannot pull anymore Hair Out:  🙂

OK I admit it, I'm totally lost !!

You have a problem with the belt squealing and so you replaced the Track Rod Ends, Bottom Ball Joints and a Steering Rack, why ?

Are using a genuine Ford belt, and is it correctly routed around all the pulleys ?

One would assume your tensioner is worn out or you have a seized alternator free wheeling pulley if fitted.

 Ask your mechanic to put a little pressure on the tensioner ( very carefully) whilst engine is running to see if it goes.

I would also say that if your mechanic replaced all of these parts for a squeaky belt i would say the first remedy would be a new mechanic

The reason for changing all these parts is to try and eliminate what is causing the squealing as it's all connected to the steering and it seems the pump is struggling under pressure (3x Pumps fitted 2x genuine, 1x returned under warranty, The engine has been run without the A/C and Alternator connected by using a shorter belt, problem still there !!

Has it been tried running the engine for 3 or 4 minutes without any belt connected ?

If with no belt fitted there is no squealing then it has to be something that the belt drives.

Does the belt not drive the water pump on your engine ? They commonly squeal when the pump bearing is starting to fail.

Can you find out if the alternator has a free wheeling pulley, maybe post a photo of the front of the alternator or ring ford parts and ask,  as it may be seized, easy to check if its seized with the belt off.

Also incase an aftermarket belt was fitted, whilst on the phone also ask for what spec aux belt they list for that vehicle

Sorry ive just seen that you have already bypassed the alternator,  have any of the garages confirmed that its definitely the belt squealing? Has anyone sprayed a bit of brake cleaner on the belt when its making the noise to see if it stops?
