Fast blinking turn indicator in instrument cluster?

2019 Ecosport titanium. My left indicator started to flash quickly so I assumed it was a classic bulb failure causing the issue. Checked

indicators on outside but they were all flashing correctly at the correct speed. So it’s just the green left turn indicator on the dashboard that’s flashing quickly not the external bulbs? Also where is the indicator relay? Does it even have one. My local ford spares dept couldn’t

sell me one unless I had the old one in my hand???

I would check all the other bulbs for correct operation on the left  and not just the indicator. I was puzzled a few weeks ago with a transit doing the same. On the transit the brake light didn't work due to a broken wire. Fixed the wiring and tested brake light ok. Then the indicator flashed normally on the dash.

Have you checked the little side repeater indicator ?

There is no indicator flasher unit on your car, they are controlled by the BCM.

Thanks for the replies guys I will look into those two areas. I suspect the body control module will need a specialist reader to interrogate it further.

Silly Question ....

Is a rapid flashing indicator indicator an indicator of any bulb failure ?

The only car I have with bulb failure indication has a mimic of a car showing doors, boot light failure etc..

Perhaps I should have qualified my question by saying a "modern" car

It is actually a legal requirement on all UK (and possibly the world) cars that the failure of any indicator lamp will cause 'hyper-flash' as a warning that there is a problem.

This was originally just a handy accident that this actually happened on old cars and not something that was purposely designed in. Original indicator flasher units were a bi-metallic strip that was heated by the current been drawn by the two indicator lamps. The failure of one lamp caused the bi-metallic strip not to heat up as much, and so the flash rate increased.

Since the introduction of electronic flasher units (1980 ish) and more recently the use of the Body Control Module, to regulate the flash speed they have now been designed to monitor the current of the indicator circuit for failure of a lamp. They then mimic the hyper-flash just like the original units to warn the driver that a lamp is not working.

Yes, well it is on transit as I found out, so good to assume the same on all fords now.
