Can tyres just deflate or is it neighbours letting them d..?

Featured Replies

Hey guys. A bit of an odd question.

Two months ago we got four brand new tyres and all was okay.

We ended up moving about a month later and instantly had a problem with a neighbour (long story). About two weeks later I came out to head off to work and noticed the car was having pulling away. I got out and checked and rear left tyre was absolutely flat. I checked it for nails etc but nothing.

As I only work two miles away I pumped the tyre up and drove to work. It was an 18hr shift and when I came out it was still fully inflated. I drove to my mother's house (20 miles away) and it was still fully inflated. I drove back home the day after and parked outside of my house. One again the tyre was fine and fine the next day. However, the day after as I was leaving for work I noticed the tyre was once again fully deflated..

I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid lol but..is it possible for a tyre to just randomly deflate? especially after it's been drive about 50 miles and was fine yet standing still outside of the house it deflates.

I sadly can't afford to take it to a garage until payday at the end of the month but will do to get it fully checked out. So, what is your opinion?:) Thank you.

You might just have a faulty valve, it can happen.

If you suspect someone is letting it down, then why not mark a little line on the dust cap and the valve stem?

Try not to make it too noticeable, leave the cap just a quarter of a turn loose before you mark it. Then if the tyre goes flat again have a look to see if the dust cap has been tampered with, anyone putting it back in a hurry is almost sure to fully tighten it and the mark on the cap won't line-up with the valve.

Ty for the reply and tips!

I've put a small black but of cotton in the cap this morning but I think I prefer the loose cap idea better! Harder to notice.

I do feel paranoid lol but the argument was over parking.. so seems an odd coincidence.

I'll take it into the tyre place when payday comes around eitherway thank you once again.

I don't know how carefully you checked the Tyres for nails, but the symptoms you describe are what you would normally get if there is a nail in a Tyre.

How much it goes down often depends on where the nail is in relation to the road when the car is stopped and a Tyre needs to very flat for it to be noticeable to the naked eye, you need to check with a gauge everyday to be sure.
