jace1969
Hi all. On Saturday i hit a very wide/deep pothole regarding in a blow out and a dent in my Alloy at 60mph,a very scary moment. I have the snowflake alloys on my 2011 Titanium, can you repair the alloy just to use as a spare as i have won a wheel and tyre off eBay,i will add picture. Also i have the space saver wheel on and using the Nuts from my alloys but that go tight and wheel dont move but the washers on the Nut seems a bit loose,do i need to keep set of Nuts for steel wheel (space saver)in my car. TomsFocus
Careful mentioning snowflake alloys on here. That could be repaired, but it'd probably cost more to repair and fit a new tyre than just buying a decent used wheel & tyre to keep spare.
Bobr
I'd be inclined to have a word with the local council to see if you can get some of the cost back.
unofix
Take lots of photos of the pot hole, take measurements and put a claim in to the council. The normal response is its not there fault because they didn't know about it. Then you pay a local solicitor to write a letter back, costs about £85 and you'll find the council will get there insurers to settle the claim in full including the cost of the solicitors letter.

But my main comment would be - if it's repaired well enough to have as a spare, then it's OK to use on the car all the time.

I didn't mean as a spare in the car i mean keep as a spare at home, space saver will be in car as alloy won’t fit in the well anyway. Sorry, worded it wrong.
jace1969
By the way looking at it closer its got a crack all along the back of the inside of the wheel so scrap. Are the nuts off the alloy wheel ok on the steel rim, the space saver or will i need sone wheel nuts for the steel rim.
TomsFocus
The original space saver is designed to be used with the original alloy nuts. If either the space saver or the nuts have been changed since new then they may not be suitable.
jace1969
Can i go up a size on the tyres, mine now are 205/40/17 snowflake alloys. Can i put 205/45/17......go from 40 to 45 and also if i can, do i have to have all 4 at once or can i put 2 45's on the front with 40 on the back for a few months as can't really afford all 4 at once,if i have to it would have to be a cheaper tyre set.
