unofix
To the best of my knowledge there were only two makes of rear axle used on your Escort Mk2. The Timken axle - It has the housing bolts facing forwards towards the gearbox The Salisbury axle - It has a cover on the rear with the bolts facing towards the back bumper. On the bases of the above it would seem possible that you have the Salisbury axle. There is just one problem which is the cover in your photo is Octagonal in shape with 8 bolts, and the cover used on the Salisbury was round with 10 bolts. You may have an aftermarket replacement axle or given the car was made towards the end of the Mk2 perhaps there was a third make of axle used that I'm not aware of. I think somewhere along its life the axle has been changed for sure.As you are correct for original axles. Definitely with the octagonal shape and 8 bolts indicates towards i think Borg Waner M68 as fitted to Escorts in Joburg or Australia. Im looking to replace the pinion oil seal
