New Ranger rolling back on hill.

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a new Ranger Wildtrak and it rolls backwards when its on a hill when you take your foot of the accelerator pedal. I have never seen this happen on automatics before and think its very dangerous especially if you are towing a trailer.  Does anyone know if this is a fault or if this is standard. I know even the new manual gearboxes have a 2 second hold on hills. Thanks

A clutched auto can roll back with the clutches disengaged (same as a manual with the clutch down) but the trans should be locked or the brakes held electronically to prevent rolling back in that situation.

I've just checked and see the Rangers don't have an auto-hold button on the centre console, unlike most cars with EPB.

Personally I'd scroll through the dash menus to see if you can find anything like auto-hold that could be switched on or off in driver assistance features.

To be honest I don't know much about the Ranger Wildtrak, but I can say I've owned a car that was exactly like that, which was a 2016 Landrover Discovery Sport, automatic. It was hell on earth trying to pull away on a hill.
