Ryan5257
Hello I’m after a bit of help I’m currently doing an engine rebuild on my Ford fiesta 1.0 ecoboost and I have fitted a new cylinder head/ new camshafts which have had all the valve clearances checked and when they have arrived they didn’t come with any pulleys/sprockets on. I have locked all the timing with the timing pin for the crank and also fitted the tool across the camshafts so everything is locked ready for the new belt but I wasn’t sure if there was a special procedure when fitting the new vvt pulleys or can I just bolt them on? Thanks
RayC333
Hello Ryan, did your timing tool kit come with the camshaft pulley locators?

Ryan5257
Hello Ray thank you for your reply, yes the kit I have came with them looking tools I’ve got the manual and it says you fit them and turn them anti clockwise until you get resistance but getting a little bit confused I wasn’t sure if you left the cam pulleys loose with the centre nut and fit all the timing belt then fit the timing casing and then fit the locking tools until you feel resistance and then tighten the pulleys? RayC333
Sounds like you have it sorted really. Be confident. As a final check turn over the engine by hand before you start it, then recheck that the camshafts are in the right position in relation to crankshaft TDC. Good luck. Ryan5257
Thank you mate, I take it the whole point of doing this is just to take any slack out of the belt?
RayC333
I believe it's more than that. With the pulleys not yet tightened there should be no slack present when the camshafts are aligned, belt fitted and the tensioner in action. As far as I remember the two pulley tools will only fit in specific positions in the VVT bodies before being tensioned and bolts being nipped up. I'm not an expert on the specific VVT design so maybe someone else can help with that.
Ryan5257
Ok so you leave the pulleys loose fit the timing belt and timing belt cover, insert the vct pulley tools so the pin is facing upwards on the tool and then turn the tool anti clockwise to take the slack out of the vct pulleys and then tighten the tool and torque the vct pulleys? Does that sound about right? Sorry for the questions but want it to be right and struggle to really find clear instructions online and thank you for your replies really appreciate it!
