unofix
Is this the 1.6 EFi engine ? I had an August 1990 'H' Registration Orion 1.6 Ghia with the EFi engine and from day one it had constant misfires. They were well known for constantly going out of tune and running rough. The fix back in the day was to change the system for the later version used 1991/1992 Is your car an 'H' Reg, (1990) or is it a 1992 'K' Reg ? 🤔
Paulkp
https://www.xrstyle.co.uk/forums/index.php Try the XR Owners Club, they may have a solution. If this is the Bosch mechanical system a la 2.8i, the airflow plate might be gummed up. You could try some injector cleaner, which as my Capri got older, I would use occasionally. DaveT70
Yes, confusing. "H" reg is MK4 CVH 1.6 EFi as per OP But your profile is saying "92" which would be a MKV 1.8 Zetec 16v Need to be more specific please

Hi Andy, First thing is to check the Timing is correct, remove the two 10mm bolts from the upper timing cover and remove the cover rotate the engine clockwise until the cutout in the bottom pulley aligns with TDC indicated on the bottom timing cover, their is also a groove on the cam gear it should align with a small hole at the top face of the cylinder head behind the cam pulley? If the belt looks new I would do a compression check as if the belt has broken previously it will have bent valves and that will be the cause of rough running. Photo is also a MK5 Cabrio Perhaps the photo is unrelated to the question about the XR3i, only the OP can answer that 👍 H225 KPJ was registered 24th April 1991 - ESCORT CABRIOLET - VIN: WF0LXXGKALMD66613 - Vehicle is currently untaxed, MOT'd to 28th June 2024
