Dpf Removal Ecu Remapping Service

No contributions, what does it take to get debate going on here? I'll attempt to kick it off then

Of course the Mk2 Focus 1.6 TDCi has a Cat come DPF combined. So taking both of those two exhaust cleaning processes out of the equation, would I suspect possibly result in a MOT emissions failure. Maybe, maybe not, but as I don't have any expertise in that area, honestly don't have a clue. Then again maybe the company offering the service would be able to give any body interested in possibly having it done, the heads up in that regard........I bet hawker would have been interested in having a definitive answer to that question.

Even if it is possible to do the Focus 1.6 TDCi Cat/DPF, or in the case of the Focus 2.0 TDCi which is a stand alone DPF. How do you go on at resale time when you come to PX it? Even selling private, if your selling to a DPF ignorant punter, they would not realise the diesel economy and maintenance savings, not having one could bring. But just think Oh er, it's been tampered with, best give it a wide birth.

And if the DVLA were to find out you had had it altered, how would you stand legally?

Removing the DPF should not make any difference for the MOT. The emissions test in the MOT only checks the opacity of the smoke. The exhaust gasses are not analysed like they are on a petrol engine.

interesting that, and when you come to think about it they would not be offering the service that then failed on the MOT.

I'm sure I read somewhere that this wouldnt work with Ford's own version of their ECU software, so I'll try and see where I read that to and get back.

What surprises me about this tho is the fact that its legal. With all this Euro IV claptrap etc. I'm astonished this "mod" can be legally performed on a car,

If it is legal, and it works, and it also passes MOT then this could be the best £200 TDCi owners can ever spend on their Focus. No more DPF AND Eolys top-ups! Save yourself a fortune! :D

Without the DPF the CO2 emissions would increase, I'm sure that you would inform the DVLA so that your road tax could be increased!

On another note, simply removing the DPF is not enough, on some cars such as Vauxhalls need the engine management software tweaked for the car to run properly. So Fords could have the same problem.

Strangely you dont need to inform the DVLA if the co2 changes after first reg.

If you buy a "green" car with 99g emmisions to avoid tax completely ,you may find it has no air con as this would push it over the 100g limit.

There is nothing to stop you retrofitting air con as soon as you drive it off the forecourt, there is no requirement to re check the emissions limit.

Don't need to inform DVLA, no issues with MOT - sounds like DPF removal is a win win situation B)

£450 is a bit expensive against what I have seen to be honest but then again if its a mobile service that may account for some cost.

I would ask for an itemised breakdown in a quote.
