Oriskany Posted August 18 Share Posted August 18 Recently milk containers of 4 and 6 pints have been fitted with caps the same colour as the body of the container as opposed to the previous blue and green. It's bad enough being over 60 and perhaps being viewed as pre-doddery but standing there waving a capped container over a cup of tea in company doesn't help when you don't notice it's still on. 6 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The number of things I am now aware of that blatantly just discriminate, or hinder the elderly in everyday living is now scandalous. Yes, simple packaging of products, different colour caps, plastic so tough you can't open many supermarket items, even blocks of cheese she struggles with. Not to mention most things IT related, banking accounts, virtually al online now, telephone landlines being closed down, trying to access home insurance quotes, it's all just so stressful for them and I feel sorry for those that do not have people to help them in their winter years with this new, often awful world... 4 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

One of the most frustrating things for me is that I can order pretty much anything online, and have it brought right to my door...but as I can't reliably get to the door when a delivery arrives, most of them end up getting sent back to the depot...which I have no way to access at all now!聽聽 No amount of signage or emails has made any difference.聽 Same goes for supermarket deliveries.聽 I'm now completely reliant on a relative in their 50's driving 30 miles to bring me some food, meds and any deliveries that need signing for each week.聽 But I don't know how much longer they'll be able to do that...聽 I've been genuinely shocked that there is no practical help for this sort of thing offered by the council. I've even started looking at sheltered housing, but not disabled enough or old enough for my local authority apparently.聽 However, when I looked further into it, they specifically say that assistance isn't offered for shopping, medical needs or cleaning...so what's the point of it!? I'm also now virtually unable to speak, which prevents access to health services or emergency services.聽 And despite clearly putting that in emails for anyone that has to deal with me - they still arrive expecting a conversation! 聽 This is the reason I try to improve 'society' where I can, whether that's disability access, or inclusivity, or the environment etc.聽 I think most 'normal' people just don't realise how much they take for granted.聽 Education is key IMO. 5 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Apparently clear/while ones are easier to recycle, although I'm sure coloured ones have been recycled for many years. A few weeks ago we bought some whole milk for visitors who were staying with us.聽 Both whole and our Semi-skimmed had same top. My partner used to nick the top of the milk for her daily cereal. Had to stop the deliveries as she passed and I don't use much milk. What really annoys me is how many websites now assume that you have a mobile phone and you can't log on to them without receiving an SMS. That is really unfriendly to most of the elderly in my opinion. My dad was a milkman many years ago and we delivered sterilised with gold crown cap, silver foil cap pasteurised, gold cap creamy channel Island, and red foil capped homogenised for those that didn't want birds pecking their caps for the cream layer. Glass reusable bottles and tin foil. No plastic in sight.
