2017 Wildtrak Engine Dramas

Featured Replies

Hello! I have 2017 Wildtrak with 48,000 on the clock. It went into limp mode a little while back and was diagnosed with a Cam Shaft Position sensor fault, and also Knock sensor fault. The garage replaced the cam shaft sensor and that also cleared the knock sensor fault.

took it home and it was running terribly and got worse throughout the week until it was practically undriveable. Mis firing, revs bouncing up and down, engine vibrating and lots of white smoke. RAC diagnosed this error - ‘Cam shaft position sensor synched - No’

its been back in the garage and was then diagnosed with 4 faulty injectors, which have now been replaced. Unfortunately this has not solved the isssue and the car still running terribly. Garage are now saying they aren’t sure what’s wrong with it, as no faults coming up. They mentioned the timing chain may have stretched. Wondering if anyone else has come across a similar issue? The garage must be sick of it now as I sure am 😆

If you've just paid for 4 new injectors fitted unnecessarily, I don't think the garage will be too upset...

Probably needs Ford specific diagnostics on it.  Either Forscan or a Ford dealer.  Don't really understand why injectors would be replaced for a cam/crank sync fault.

The cam chain may have stretched or the chain guides/tensioner may be failing.  That would knock the cam & crank out of sync which means the engine is no longer timed properly and will run rough etc.  I don't have any experience with this particular engine so not sure if there's a common fault with the timing chains on these.

I think because the sensor was replaced and the engine was still not right. So the injectors were tested and came back as needing replaced. I did wonder if it might have to go back to Ford. It’s been nearly 4 months off the road now, absolute drama 🙈

What a nightmare forbyou buddy
