2003 Ford Focus Estate C-Max

Hi all, if anyone can help with my problem I'd sure appreciate it. I have a 2003 Focus estate c-max, the problem is that it overheats when stationary, ie stuck in a traffic jam etc, usually takes 5 - 10 mins for this to happen but is OK when I get going again. My thoughts are it's the thermostat but want to be sure before I undertake any work.

Thank you in advance for any help.

What's the temp like, does the needle shoot up straight away or after a few minutes of driving? Is the fan cutting in at all, what is the coolant like, does it have enough etc?

yes i also think that it the cooling fan not cutting in, this could the sensor or even the fan its self.
