In this case it's probably best to let them try and fix it.  No point rejecting it for another facelift with the same engine and gearbox if they're all the same.  At least Ford are trying to sort the software issues which will hopefully lead to a proper fix for everyone else as well by software update.

My dealership are saying they think there is no problem as it’s a mild hybrid & they say it might be supposed to be like that, they don’t take me seriously I’ve said I would prefer they take the car back but not sounding like they will even consider that without me proving there is a fault he suggested i video the hybrid screen (passenger hold phone) when driving to show the hybrid status, I spent a lot of my money on this car & I so wish I hadn’t !

I just wish I could have my 2022 auto  puma back it was perfect

Don't accept that rubbish.

Contact Ford CRC and complain, they will, at first, ask you to take the vehicle in for repair/diagnosis at a different dealer.

Raise a formal; complaint with the dealer principle at your local dealer too.

There is a problem! And both my dealer and Ford technical have admitted there is a problem by working together to try and fix it! Don’t take that from your dealer and contact Ford CRC and tell them the situation. You have bought a Mild Hybrid Car and without the Hybrid system working correctly the car doesn’t meet the advertised car specification!!

My update!!

Got a call from my dealer saying that Ford Technical have now told them to replace the Hybrid battery!! This apparently isn’t a stock item and they have to order one in. I did ask how long it would be and they are going to get back to me! I am willing to work with them to resolve the problem but I think if this doesn’t work, after nearly 3 months of a brand new car not working to spec, I will go back to Ford CRC and start what ever the process is to reject the car!

  • 2 weeks later...

Interestingly my dealer who have had the car for a second week! have told me they have now finally spoken to someone at Ford technical  (which apparently is quite difficult) and they have acknowledged there is a fault on these cars and they are saying its a software issue with the Battery Control Module. They are working on a fix but haven't given an timescale as yet.

The dealers do have strict lines of communication that they are not allowed to deviate from. Three years ago when my Puma was stuck in Romania for months, I managed to get hold of the email address of Lisa Brankin, CEO of Ford UK. To her credit, she got the car moving within 24 hours. Later, one of the salesmen at my dealership secretly contacted me to ask for the CEO's email address so that he could give it to one of his customers who was also experiencing silly delivery delays.

We have a 2024 previous model 125 ps Puma and lost the hybrid drive indication (blue) on the display over the weekend but back working now. The green regen charging indication was unaffected and working as it should.

Not sure if it was just the display or the hybrid drive thro the CSIG.

Those with hybrid problem, call your  dealer. They should now be able to diagnose your issue.

Our Puma is working fine again at the moment and I don’t want to lose the vehicle for a day or more to be told ‘no fault found’.

I’ll wait until a fix (probably software) has been found.

Update - Week 5 at dealers!!

Was told that the replacement Hybrid battery would be with them on the Monday of week 4. I didn't rush then and gave them until the Wednesday to see how they were getting on before I phoned them and was then told by the the guy on the service desk that they are now waiting for a new "module"  to be delivered. The part is on "Back order" in Germany which means they haven't a clue when they will get it in. Not fully happy with their reply I contacted Ford CRC again to see if they could offer any more assistance. They checked on their system and verified that the dealer has indeed ordered the module, but again couldn't give me a lead time on the delivery!! Not really sure how much longer this will go on for??. Both the dealer and CRC are going to let me know when the part is delivered, but in the meantime CRC are going to give me a weekly call!! Not sure how long to give them before I initiate the reject procedure??

Personally I'd start it now. It's not a very quick process and in the meantime it might just give Ford a kick up the ar5e and move things along much quicker.

have a 2024 automatic puma 3 weeks old

hybrid works most of time but it stops working around 20% of the time ford have looked at car took it on 1 testdrive for 10 mins & say it’s fine

I’m really annoyed with them I explained it’s only happening a few times so they need to do lots of trips over a hour & then they would believe me,

they say battery full but when it’s not working you get no electric boost & no drag on deceleration also when hybrid isn’t working it also stops the stop start function.

car works perfect in every other way but MPG down we did a 150 mile trip other day & no hybrid & no stop start, they just don’t believe me.

i had a 2022 puma automatic & it never did this I am annoyed with ford for not taking me seriously

I have the same Puma hybrid problems as others on the forum and the same frustrations with Ford UK. I got the car in October a new Puma Titanium 155PS auto. The hybrid system has not worked as intended since new, got no re generation when coasting etc on the green hybrid gauge and just a bit on braking and got no hybrid help on the blue on the hybrid gauge. Have done approx 600 miles and the hybrid has only worked a couple of times as it should. I returned the car to Ford who had it a week, it was returned with the same issues. However luckily it was witnessed as not working by two members of the dealers, who have gone out of their way to help. I have rejected the car under the 30 day Consumer Rights Act now in massive legal battle as car also under Ford Credit PCP and Ford UK are stating I have to get the car repaired as allegedly there is a fix for the known fault.

This is exactly the problem we are all having. As I posted earlier Ford have finally told me that they accept this is a problem and are working on a software fix for the battery control module. It would be interesting for someone to follow this up with their dealer and see if they can also verify this through Ford technical services.

I assume the “module” I am waiting for (without any clue of when delivery will be) is the battery control module that also requires a software fix? I will seek some clarification from Ford CRC when they call me later in the week?

Be interesting to get a clearer picture on how many new cars out there are affected, and are they all autos? Surely we can’t be the only ones??

I will let you all know how my call with Ford CRC goes and if there’s any update with the Module delivery or software update!!

I rang ford CRC & wasn’t treated very well by them, not interested in my frustrations at all & before I had any positive help she put me on hold & when phone finally answered she had put me through to my local dealer who are now going to have the car back again for investigation, so on Tuesday next week they will diagnose & test drive again, I know how this will go they will just hand car back saying it’s working fine, I got passenger to take  a video of dash on motorway with hybrid not giving any hybrid on slowdown or acceleration I will show them this as well.

my dealership say they have had no brief on any other (auto pumas) having the same fault, the replacement puma we had for a day also a auto did exactly the same thing so I’m thinking they are all like it, I bet there are loads of people out there driving with this issue who are unaware it’s not right as for instance my wife would not have noticed if I hadn’t

last ford I ever Buy I like the car but after sales care is appalling 😩

Well good news, Ford rang me a few minutes ago to say they have the new software for the BCM. They will update it for me next Tuesday so I will report back afterwards,

I am having the same problem, brand new in June and it’s in my drive no battery. Ford Focus estate st line mild hybrid. I’m trying to send it back. Looks like it’s going to keep happening. I found this online. My car is auto and the revs were up at 6000 when I was doing 60, then went into limp mode

Some common issues with Ford Focus hybrid cars include:
  • Oil pump belt
The oil pump belt is made of rubber and can degrade and block up the engine.

  • Battery problems
The battery may drain after going into a deep sleep, or the battery power may suddenly drop. This could be due to extreme temperatures, overcharging, or a faulty battery cell. A software update may fix the issue, but a new battery may be required.

  • EcoBoost engine problems
Some common issues with the EcoBoost engine include:
    • Loss of engine power: This can be caused by a build-up of carbon on the intake valve stems, which restricts airflow.

    • Fuel pressure problems: Low pressure from the fuel injector pump can restrict the engine.

    • Overheating: Early Ford models with EcoBoost engines had coolant pipes made of nylon, which were prone to failing at high temperatures.

Hybrid Ford vehicles are known for their fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and regenerative braking technology.

Update,

Into Week 6 at dealer! Got a call from my contact at Ford CRC to give an update on Friday. The update basically was to tell me there was no update!! Still no idea on a delivery date for the module? I mentioned that on the "Ford Puma Forum" an alternative fix has been mentioned involving a software update rather than a replacement of a physical part, and that might be worth trying first, considering there is still no light at the end of the tunnel for the replacement module. The reply was that they couldn't comment on anything that wasn't from an official Ford source!! I reiterated my disappointment in not being able to drive my nice new car from week to week. Its "newness" is running out, like its length of warranty, time to first service, etc, etc. In 3 weeks time its 2025 and my car is no longer new! There are second hand Face-lift Puma's now on the market that are newer than mine, thousands of pounds less than I've paid for mine!! They said they appreciated how disappointing it must be and offered me a more frequent than our current weekly call. I said only call me when there is news of when the part will be delivered! Seriously now considering to go down the rejection route!!

PVR - Any news on the software update for the BCM

Think I might have mentioned on 2nd Dec.

The rejection process takes time, get it started first thing in the morning. If in the mean time the part turns up you can always reconsider.

My dealer had my car back on Tuesday for a whole day & said car was fine, they dropped it back Tuesday evening, my wife took it to work & hybrid didn’t work 😡, I’m convinced they just deny there is a fault knowing there is I don’t know what to do from here ! They don’t seem to even be polite to me anymore.

I had the software update done on Tuesday. I hadn't posted an update as its early days and I did not want to jump the gun on whether the fix had been successful. However, so far so good. I have done a little bit of testing doing some journeys, leaving the car for 15 to 30 minutes then running it again. I have done six of these "journeys" so far and its worked perfectly each time. Prior to the fix it was failing on a more regular basis than this so its very encouraging. I have spoken to my Local Ford garage to see if they can share any specific details on the fix like a version or something. They have been kind enough to share the following which are the notes from my job card but whether it will be helpful is another question. I will post another update next week after I have used the car more often.

Carried out sbdo test and contacted Gtac. gtac have now indicated that there is a known issue with the software for the becm and will release a update in due course"

"Carried out manual diag for an rvc. connected battery support unit and carried out becm software update and post repair test all ok"

Kind Regards
