2023 Ford Ranger XLT, My Ranger was 18months old .

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I had a Ford Ranger 2023 from new . it was the V6 Diesel, Loved it. 40000k's on it extremely well looked after

It caught fire under the bonnet on the drivers side. It burnt to the ground. No one has been able to give us a reason why this happened. The policeman said it could of been a hose that cracks & drips onto the turbo. , he also said that he has had seen it happen 3 times.

has anyone else had this happen If so did you contact Ford - Or what did you do.

Yes we were insured but as you all know insurance is never enough.

Would love to know who else has been through this.

Cheers

Your profile doesn't give a location or country so we don't know if the vehicle was RHD or LHD

There does seem to be at least 2 other fires of new Rangers in just the last 10 days in the UK.

You should definitely contact Ford.  The vehicle is under warranty and has a potentially dangerous fault that may also be present in others.

Just wonder if their car insurance would query the cause of fire with Ford, or just accept the outcome and pay up no matter what the cause was?

Dan's your man to answer that question 😉

On a brand new car, many insurance companies will replace it like for like.  Though with 40,000 miles that may be invalid.

The insurance doesn't need to be involved here though - unless there was any property damage caused by the fire.  Ford should be repairing it under manufacturer warranty.

That might be a stretch too far, even with the might of Ford 🤣

Perhaps you were thinking 'replacing it' ?

Lol, not necessarily!  It will depend entirely on what the Ford warranty assessors will approve.  There can be enough value left in young cars for it to be worth repairing fire damage.

New engine, bonnet, bumper, wing and paint costs a lot less than a whole new vehicle if the damage is restricted to those areas for example.  If it is indeed 'burnt to the ground' then replacement is likely the better option as you say.  Though as they've had 40,000 miles worth of use from it, I'm not sure a brand new replacement would be approved by the warranty team.  Will be interested to hear how this unfolds.
